The U.K. prime ministerial race frontrunner, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, continues to hold on to a commanding 22-point lead over former Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership contest, according to a new survey of Tory members on August 14, 2022. In an Opinium poll for ‘The Observer’ newspaper of 570 Conservative members with a vote in the election, Ms. Truss is on 61% and the British Indian former minister is on 39%. The allure of owning property in Turkey is growing among Russian buyers, according to the latest numbers. Over 1,000 properties were bought in the country by Russians in July according to the Turkish statistics agency, representing more than 25 percent of foreign buyers in the month. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Russian purchases of Turkish property have increased dramatically, overtaking buyers from Iran and Iraq to become the biggest nationality. Total sales to Russians in the period April to July last year were 1,186 properties, representing eight percent of foreign sales. In 2022, that number for the same four-month period has risen to 5,342, or more than a fifth of overseas sales. One of the attractions of buying Turkish property is the fact that buyers can also get Turkish citizenship as part of the package. South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group said on Monday it ranked third in first-half global vehicle sales on increased high-end model sales despite the lack of automotive chips. Hyundai Motor, its independent Genesis brand, and Hyundai’s smaller affiliate Kia Corp. sold a total of 3.299 million vehicles in global markets in the January-June period, following Toyota Motor Group’s 5.138 million units and Volkswagen Group’s 4.006 million units, according to their sales data. In the first six months, increased sales of Genesis models, the all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5, and the pure electric Kia EV6 pushed up the Korean carmaker’s sales ranking, reports Yonhap news agency. Formula One’s governing body approved engine regulations for 2026 on Tuesday, an eagerly-awaited move that could lead to the arrival of premium Volkswagen Group brands Porsche and Audi. A new Russian RPG-launching robot is in fact a modified Chinese home dog bot, according to a new investigation. The M81 robot dog, which is armed with an RPG-26 rocket launcher, was displayed at the Army 2022 International Military-Technical Forum , a major arms fair, in Moscow this week. Video of the robot dog walking, sitting down and standing up went viral on social media after being published by Russian news agency RIA Novosti. Reposted on Twitter by Rob Lee, an expert on the Russian military at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a U.S. think tank, it received more than 500,000 views and 1,900 retweets.
