Actor Jay Ellis remembers watching the 1986 movie “Top Gun” at an Air Force base in Austin, Texas. He was only 8 or 9 years old, and the blockbuster made him dream about becoming a fighter pilot. Ellis wanted to be part of that military community. Now, he plays Navy fighter pilot Payback in the anticipated sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” which releases nationwide Friday and in select theaters starting Tuesday. Actor Russel Crowe is the latest addition to the star-studded cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth solo movie for the Marvel hero Thor is being helmed by Taika Waititi, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt and Christian Bale in the pivotal roles. Matt Damon, Melissa McCarthy and Luke Hemsworth will also be seen in a cameo in the film. Crowe’s role still hasn’t been announced yet but it will definitely be a memorable one, given Waititi’s record with Thor: Ragnarok. However, another memorable role that the seasoned actor played was Jor-El, the father of Kal-El or Superman in the DC Extended Universe films, more recently in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The Other One.” As the title suggests, the flick is about a witch born as a result of a project to create superhumans, called “Ark1 Datum point.” Referred to as “the girl,” the role of the witch went to rookie actor Shin Si-ah, beating out some 1,408 others during the audition process. Well-wishers braved the rain to line the route of the funeral cortege, breaking into spontaneous applause for the father of two who lost his brave seven-year battle with a rare form of stomach cancer earlier this month. Despite his illness the 39 year old set up the Steve Prescott Foundation and raised almost £500,000. His son Taylor, 12, told the congregation: “I’d like to say how proud I am of what my dad has achieved. “I have got lots of great memories of the times we have had together. A bride had her wedding vows tested to the breaking point when her groom dropped her in a puddle of mud as they posed for pictures. The couple, named as Murat Zhurayev and Kamilla in Kazakh media, had been posing for their wedding photos when the groom scooped his bride into his arms. As he struck a dramatic, arty pose, Zhurayev slipped and both of them ended up sprawling in a muddy slime caused by a flash rainstorm in Almaty. The first snap shows Kamilla looking lovingly at her man with the spectacular panorama of the mountains in the background and their images reflected in a water-filled puddle. The next image shows water droplets scattering through the air as they slip in the mud and both end up flat on their backs.
