JSA assists Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited in demerger of SSTL’s wireless business to Reliance Communications Limited

J. Sagar Associates (JSA) is advising Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited (SSTL) and its majority shareholder Sistema JSFC, a leading Russian conglomerate (Sistema) in connection with the demerger of SSTL’s telecom wireless business operated under MTS brand to Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) in exchange for 10% of the issued and paid up capital of RCOM. The realm of patent ineligible “abstract ideas” arguably grows ever larger by the day, and now encompasses inventions that require movement of shipping containers.  How the handling, storage and transportation of heavy metal objects that are the backbone of the shipping industry could plausibly be characterized as lacking presence within the realm of 101, is definitely a head scratcher (check out claims repeated below).In this case, Plaintiff, Wireless Media Innovations, LLC, is the owner of two patents covering certain systems and methods relating to the monitoring of shipping containers. Board Limits Multiple IPR Challenges in Samsung Electronics v. Rembrandt Wireless Technologies

As Consumers Flock Towards Connected Cars, Wireless Industry Benefits

It is no secret that consumers are increasingly focused on connected cars. In a survey of consumers by Accenture, over 50% of consumers surveyed were already using some connected car services, 57% of those surveyed would like to have the ability to surf the internet via a monitor in the car, and 81% of consumers wanted a system like eCall in their car. Currently, connected-safety features generate the most revenues for connected car services, but driver assistance is expected to surpass safety as the top connected car revenue stream in 2017.This has led to a sector of rapid expansion in the wireless industry.  During the second quarter of 2016, the wireless industry’s Internet of Things (IoT) growth exceeded phones and tablets combined. Looking further ahead, a wireless industry consultant predicts that infotainment, such as music streaming, and telematics, such as navigation, fleet management, will make up 98% of all machine to machine traffic by 2021.Within … [Read more...] about As Consumers Flock Towards Connected Cars, Wireless Industry Benefits

Does Wireless Media Innovations Have a Lock on Tracking Shipping Containers in a Shipping Yard?

Wireless Media Innovations, LLC (“Wireless”) asserts patent infringement of two patents against Flowers Foods, Inc.
