Fisher-Price Recalls 44K Barbie Dream Campers; Wheels Could Continue Running

Fisher-Price is recalling approximately 44,000 children’s Power Wheels toy vehicles because it can continue to run even after the foot pedal is released, posing a risk for injuries. The recall includes Power Wheels Barbie Dream Campers that were sold exclusively at Walmart stores from July 2018 through Jan. 2019. The recalled product has a model number of FRC29, which can be found printed under the hood. Fisher-Price has so far received 17 reports of the toy’s wheels continuing to run even after children released the foot pedal. No injuries have been reported, the company said. Consumers are urged to take the Power Wheels toy away from their kids and to get a free repair by contacting Fisher-Price at 1-800-348-0751. A YMCA Actually Forced Black Campers to Play Slaves in a Reenactment

Tiffany Birchett, mother of one of the campers, told The Detroit News that her 10-year-old daughter was disturbed by the program at the YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, with instructors dancing and acting happy before participating in the activity where they held certificates that allowed them to buy slaves. The enslaved children then had to hold the certificates once they were bought or sold.Birchett worked with the ACLU of Michigan to put a stop to this, and called her daughter’s school principal, William Murphy, to let him know what was going on at the camp. Former employees at closed camper manufacturer in Pennsylvania receive backpay and medical payments in settlement

A settlement between the major investor in a defunct Pennsylvania manufacturer of camper trailers and its former unionized workforce has resulted in the withdrawal of charges that the company’s abrupt closure in January 2011 violated federal labor laws.Private equity firm Blackstreet Capital bought the manufacturing plant in 2008 and renamed it FTCA, Inc.. Under the agreement, FTCA, Inc.’s parent company, FTCA, LLC, and Blackstreet Capital will cover employees’ backpay and medical expenses incurred as a result of losing insurance coverage.
