Polo shirts: Timeless fashion statements that say, "I could be headed to a vigorous round of tennis! But probably I'm headed to work and am simply too lazy for a full button-up." In Miami-Dade, where a laid-back beach attitude mixed with subtropical swamp weather means full suits are about as practical as Borat speedos, polo shirts are about as dressed up as most office workers ever want to get. So it makes sense that polos are the de-facto official uniform of Miami-Dade County. And County Mayor Carlos Gimenez says it's time to re-up the supply of popped collars for everyone from county morgue workers to aviation employees and sewer workers. In fact, the mayor wants to drop $1.5 million on new polos for county employees. Gimenez spells out the request in a letter sent to the county commission. "The majority of these polos will be used as county uniforms," Gimenez writes in the letter, which was first noted by the Miami Herald's Doug Hanks on Twitter. Only child, 4, crushed to death by fireplace as he tried to reach a packet of Polos at grandad’s
A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy was killed when a fireplace fell on top of him as he climbed it to reach a packet of Polo mints, an inquest heard today. Little Max Rimmer-Chambers was trying to get the sweets from a mantelpiece at his grandfather's home when the four foot-high surround suddenly came away from the wall and crushed him. The stricken youngster was discovered by his mother and rushed to hospital but despite efforts to revive him he died shortly afterwards from head injuries. The Manchester hearing was told how the tragedy occurred last May 24 after Max, from Openshaw, Manchester - described as an "amazing little character" - had spent the morning playing on his toy tractor in his grandfather's back garden. His housewife mother Kerrie, 40, broke down in tears as she told the inquest: "That morning my father was doing some work in the garden. "His house was back to back with our house and Max had decided to go round to his granddad's house in his little tractor which had a trailer … [Read more...] about Only child, 4, crushed to death by fireplace as he tried to reach a packet of Polos at grandad’s
