· May 7, 2019 ·

Updated 9:20 am CDT, Tuesday, May 7, 2019 FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Volkswagen's Porsche division says it has agreed with prosecutors to pay a 535 million euro ($598 million) fine for negligent oversight for installing engines that violated emissions norms. Porsche does not make diesel engines but got V6 and V8 powerplants from Volkswagen's Audi division. Volkswagen was caught in 2015 using engine control software to cheat on diesel emissions tests. The scandal cost the Volkswagen group 30 billion euros in fines, repairs and settlements. Porsche has announced it will stop selling diesel cars and concentrate on gasoline, hybrid and battery-only cars. It said Tuesday it would not contest the fine. Former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn and four others have been charged with fraud in Germany and two executives went to prison in the United States. … [Read more...] about VW’s Porsche agrees to 535 million euro fine in diesel case

D.C. Law Firm’s Hot Porsche Spontaneously Caught Fire, Suit Claims

· March 6, 2008 ·

A Washington, D.C., law firm that specializes in representing CIA operatives has something of a mystery on its hands: How did its 2003 Porsche Cayenne S spontaneously catch fire? And who should pay for it?A lawsuit (PDF) filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., asserts that the answer to the second question is Porsche Cars North America and Ameriprise Auto and Home Insurance. The suit misspells the name of the vehicle, but name partner Roy Krieger of law firm Paleos & Krieger told BLT: The Blog of Legal Times that it’s the real thing.Krieger told the blog the car spontaneously caught fire while he was in a book store in March 2005. Unaware of the blaze, he emerged and was surprised to see a fire truck in the parking lot. He was even more surprised when he saw his $60,000 car was nothing but “a smoking hulk.”“At the end, it couldn’t even be towed,” he told the blog. “It had to be placed on a flatbed truck and driven away.”Krieger … [Read more...] about D.C. Lawyer Trades $1,100 Monthly Porsche Bill for $700-Per-Month BMW, But Loses Bid for Alimony Cut

· January 27, 2011 ·

Mark Frost has been through some hard times since the breakup of his New Jersey law firm, so he sought a reduction in the $9,500 per month alimony he is required to pay his ex-wife.Apparently seeking to bolster his case, he voluntarily traded in his $1,100-per-month Porsche for a BMW that costs him $400 less per month, reports the New Jersey Law Journal in an article reprinted in the New York Law Journal (reg. req.).But Burlington County Superior Court Judge James Palmer Jr. was not persuaded, and an Appellate Division panel agreed this month that Frost’s “lavish” lifestyle defied his claim to be cash-strapped because of the closing of his Marlton law firm, Frost & Zeff. It also noted that he had taken a number of his clients with him to his new job in Philadelphia.“If defendant has made additional changes to his lifestyle besides driving a BMW instead of a Porsche, he did not make any such adjustments known to the trial court,” the appellate panel … [Read more...] about Lawyer Trades $1,100 Monthly Porsche Bill for $700-Per-Month BMW, But Loses Bid for Alimony Cut
