BMW threatens a Brexit pullout in case of no deal days after Airbus

· June 25, 2018 ·

BMW became the latest big business last night to threaten a Brexit pullout as a fresh Cabinet row exploded over the dire warnings. Long delays at ports if no friction-free customs agreement is struck with Brussels would mean its plants in the UK will have to close, the luxury German car maker claimed. The starkest warning yet from a major manufacturer came as demands for a softer Brexit step up ahead of a key Cabinet showdown to agree the UK’s final Brexit demands next week. Public cracks also appeared among Theresa May’s top table again, as senior ministers clashed with each other on whether firms are right to speak out. Business Secretary Greg Clark blasted two Cabinet colleagues to insist they should “respect” the companies’ warnings. On Sunday, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and International Trade Secretary Liam Fox attacked plane maker Airbus, branding its threat to leave the UK while negotiations enter their tensest moment as “completely … [Read more...] about BMW threatens a Brexit pullout in case of no deal days after Airbus

Footballer ‘drove into 11 young fans with BMW after losing 5-0’

· March 18, 2019 ·

A FOOTBALLER drove into 11 young fans after losing a grudge derby, a court heard yesterday. Lee Taylor, 35, allegedly lost his temper after the teens called him “fatty”. He then drove his grey BMW into the crowd of supporters of the rival team. Prosecutor Christopher Rees told Newport Crown Court: “Taylor pointed the nose of the vehicle at the group of young persons, revved and raced his engine, his wheels spun and drove at speed. “He was knocking them down like skittles in a bowling alley - using his vehicle as a one tonne weapon. “It was an attack which was out of all proportion with the playground banter which had preceded it.” Margam FC player Taylor also allegedly gouged a fan’s eye after the 5-0 defeat at Cornelly United in Bridgend last April. Victims and witnesses describe the scene as 'carnage', with victims sent flying in the air as he careered through the young fans. One young victim jumped onto the bonnet of the car in a desperate … [Read more...] about Footballer ‘drove into 11 young fans with BMW after losing 5-0’

Production chief Zipse named new boss at automaker BMW

· July 18, 2019 ·

Updated 2:04 pm CDT, Thursday, July 18, 2019 FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — BMW has named its top production manager, Oliver Zipse, as CEO to lead the luxury automaker through a shift to new ways of doing business such as electric vehicles and offering cars on a per-use basis. The Munich-based company said in a news release Thursday that Zipse, 55, would succeed Harald Krueger on Aug. 16. Krueger, 53, said July 5 he would not seek to renew his contract when it expires next May. Krueger's tenure has seen the company lose its global lead in luxury sales to rival Mercedes. The company built an early lead in battery cars with its i3 city car, but was slow to follow up with more battery models, choosing to emphasize battery-internal combustion hybrids while Tesla seized market share in premium battery cars. … [Read more...] about Production chief Zipse named new boss at automaker BMW
