John Oliver’s latest episode of “Last Week Tonight” gave the host ample opportunity to address those viral videos of news anchors across the country reciting a promo script warning against “false news,” as mandated by telecom giant Sinclair Broadcast Group. In case you missed it, Sinclair owns about 200 news stations across the country, including four in Pennsylvania – WOLF (FOX56) in Wilkes-Barre; WHP (CBS21) in Harrisburg; and WJAC (NBC6) in Johnstown. Trump retweeted FEMA's announcement that the agency had set up a "rumor control page" to help keep the storm facts straight. "During disasters, it's critical to avoid spreading false information. Always check with official sources before sharing," read the FEMA tweet, which Trump shared shortly before 8 a.m. He also retweeted two other messages from FEMA, one in Spanish and one in English, advising residents that "Today is the last day to evacuate" and that "your window of time to leave is closing rapidly." President Donald Trump has signed legislation that would help people with deadly diseases try experimental treatments. Trump signed the Right to Try bill on Wednesday. He called it a "fundamental freedom" that will provide hope and save lives. The bill cleared the House last week following an emotional debate in which Republicans said it would help thousands of people in search of hope. Many Democrats said the measure was dangerous and would give patients false hope. Trump embraced the plan during his State of the Union address, saying people who are terminally ill shouldn't have to leave the country to seek cures. KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's opposition-led Senate blocked an effort to repeal a law against "fake news" on Wednesday, presenting the first major challenge for the new government of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Mahathir, 93, secured a stunning election win in May, ending the decade-long rule of former premier Najib Razak and changing Malaysia's government for the first time in six decades. But the Senate, or upper house of parliament, is still dominated by an opposition led by the defeated Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, which can block bills and delay government initiatives. Malaysia was among the first few countries to introduce an anti-fake news law although other countries in the region, including Singapore and the Philippines, have said they are considering how to tackle "fake news".
