‘India, Russia should have direct trade and investment agreements’

June 22, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

As Russia’s access to its traditional markets of exports and imports are hugely limited following its Ukraine invasion and the subsequent sanctions, Moscow is looking to develop new trade and investment relations with partners in Asia, including India, China and Southeast Asian countries, said Russian aluminium tycoon Oleg Deripaska. Speaking on the sidelines of 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), also known as the ‘Russian Davos’, Mr. Deripaska, founder of RUSAL, one of the world’s largest aluminium producers, said there’s an understanding that “the new normal” would fundamentally change Russia’s economic reality. To facilitate such a shift, he said, Russia needed to create the same kind of infrastructure as it had built over the 12 years, from 1991 to 2003, with Europe. This includes setting up new logistics routes and related infrastructure, customs procedures, trade agreements, infrastructure for settlements, gaining access to debt capital markets and … [Read more...] about ‘India, Russia should have direct trade and investment agreements’

June 25, 2022 by www.news18.com

India has become a regular invitee at the G-7 Summits as the West is no longer in any doubt that India, under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, needs to be a part of any sustained effort to solve the challenges being faced by the world, senior government officials told News18. PM Modi departs on Saturday for the G-7 Summit in Germany. India has participated in both the Biarritz Summit in 2019, which was in-person participation, and the Cornwall Summit in 2021, where India’s participation was in a virtual format. “As an active participant in many other divergent, plurilateral groupings like the Quad, I2U2, and BRICS, the Summit will further establish the indispensability of India in any noticeable North, South, or North-South platforms when it comes to searching for solutions and their implementation,” a senior government official told News18. The G7 are expected to discuss concrete initiatives and partnerships dedicated to climate, sustainable investment, global food security, … [Read more...] about Regular Invites for G7 Summits Under PM Modi Show India’s New Position in World Order: Govt Officials

The Indian women’s football team went down 1-4 against the USA U23 in their last encounter of the WU23 3-Nations tournament played at the Larods IP, Helsingborg in Sweden on Saturday, June 25, 2022. The Blue Tigresses created a flurry of chances and took the lead in the 8th minute, but the opponents picked up the win in the end, drawing level in the first half, before scoring three more on the other side of the lemon break. The first half began with a bang for the Indian side as Pyari Xaxa found the back of the net in the 8th minute as she pulled the trigger from long range after being fed the ball by Manisha Kalyan. Toyota, Suzuki take hybrid route in India for local, global markets

June 24, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp on Friday said they would begin production of hybrid vehicles in India, a category that Toyota has said is currently best suited to such markets. A Toyota plant in southern India would in August begin building a hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) developed by Suzuki, the companies said. Two power trains would be available, they said: one with a mild hybrid configuration from Suzuki and the other as a strong hybrid from Toyota. In a mild hybrid, the battery only assists the piston engine, without the all-electric mode available in a strong hybrid. Building the model is part of a broader partnership formed between the two Japanese automakers in 2017. It will be sold in India and exported to markets including Africa. Green investors have criticised Toyota, the world's largest carmaker by sales, for slowness in moving its product line-up to all-electric, battery electric vehicles (BEVs). But the company has argued that hybrids make more … [Read more...] about Toyota, Suzuki take hybrid route in India for local, global markets
