MARK Zuckerberg told Congress that Facebook is in an "arms race" with Russian trolls who want to influence elections. The 33-year-old Facebook Chief Executive - notoriously shy of the limelight - was probed in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and accusations of Facebook being used to farm voter data. He was quizzed over Russia's interference in elections and the spread of false information via fake accounts. Following the announcement of Facebook’s new dating feature, privacy experts have expressed skepticism surrounding the company’s new direction. Facebook recently announced a new Tinder-style dating app that would allow Facebook users to express romantic interest in other users attending the same events as them or located nearby. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated during the F8 conference: “This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships — not just for hookups.” The CEO also attempted to calm privacy fears that many may have had surrounding Facebook’s latest user data scandal. Facebook removed a staggering 2.5 million examples of “hate speech” from its platform in the first quarter of 2018, according to data released by the social network. Facebook, which like Google is currently working on A.I. technology to identify “hate speech”, admitted that its current hate-speech-detection technology “still doesn’t work that well” and that automatically flagged content “needs to be checked by our review teams”.Nevertheless, Facebook said that it “removed 2.5 million pieces of hate speech in Q1 2018”, and that 38 percent of it was flagged by the social network’s automated systems.
