ADRIAN, Mich. (AP) — Officials have lifted an evacuation order near a southern Michigan chemical manufacturer after a tanker truck hauling a paint chemical began to heat up.The Daily Telegram of Adrian reports none of the n-butyl methacrylate was released Tuesday.The evacuation order was made around noon for everyone in a half-mile radius of Anderson Development in Adrian. It was lifted after 5 p.m.The Lenawee County sheriff's office said in a news release that the evacuations were precautionary.The Methacrylate Producers Association says on its website that the colorless liquid is produced as a building block to make a wide range of polymer-based products that include paints and coatings. Fort Bragg evacuates 800 from building after safety alarm
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) — Fort Bragg authorities are searching rooms in one of the largest buildings on the North Carolina Army post after safety alarms triggered an evacuation.U.S. Army spokesman Paul Boyce said alarms were triggered around 1 p.m. Thursday in the building that houses U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command. About 800 people were evacuated.Boyce said the search by firefighters and law enforcement officers was launched as a precaution. Boyce would not confirm local media reports that some kind of threat had triggered the evacuation.Boyce said some people who work in the building were sent home, but others who left car keys or other personal necessities are waiting in adjacent buildings. (AP) — An Oklahoma turkey hunter was found alive but badly burned Friday after spending the night trapped by one of two wildfires raging in northwestern Oklahoma.The fire that trapped the hunter began Thursday afternoon near Leedey, about 110 miles (177 kilometers) northwest of Oklahoma City and has burned about 82,000 acres (331 sq. kilometers), said Oklahoma Forestry Services spokeswoman Michelle Finch-Walker said."There were three hunters who were trapped," said Finch-Walker. Around 600 people fled the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, as firefighters arrived to investigate the suspicious odour, Australian news website news.co.au reported. Rather than a gas leak, however, the culprit turned out to be a rotting durian fruit.
