Eric Holder: Will Decide in 2019 About 2020 Presidential Run
Eric Holder, who was attorney general during the Barack Obama administration, said that he will decide in 2019 on whether he will run for president in 2020. "What I’ve said is that I’d make a determination sometime early next year. My focus, really, now, is on 2018," Holder said Monday on CBS’ "Late Show With Stephen Colbert." Holder said he was focusing on helping Democrats take back majorities in the House and Senate and to gain success at the state level. The former attorney general said there was a "real problem with partisan gerrymandering," noting that redistricting is scheduled for 2021. Because of that, Holder said he wants "to make sure we elect as many people as possible at the governor level, at the state legislature level, that when 2021 comes, we have a fair redistricting process." Holder has been a frequent critic of President Donald Trump. In June, Holder criticized Trump’s use of the presidential pardon, saying he was using it on people … [Read more...] about Eric Holder: Will Decide in 2019 About 2020 Presidential Run
Eric Holder Questions Legitimacy of SCOTUS After Kavanaugh Confirmation
In the aftermath of Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation as a justice, former Attorney General Eric Holder sent out a tweet saying the legitimacy of the Supreme Court can be "justifiably" questioned. “With the confirmation of Kavanaugh and the process which led to it, (and the treatment of Merrick Garland), the legitimacy of the Supreme Court can justifiably be questioned,” Holder wrote. “The Court must now prove - through its work - that it is worthy of the nation’s trust.” Holder served in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2015. His reference to Garland concerned former President Barack Obama's final Supreme Court nominee in March 2016, who was blocked from even having a hearing by Republican senators, The Hill reported. Republicans, who controlled the Senate when Obama nominated Garland, said at the time that a choice for the open slot for Supreme Court justice should wait until after the 2016 election. Holder’s bringing up Garland was … [Read more...] about Eric Holder Questions Legitimacy of SCOTUS After Kavanaugh Confirmation

John Wagner, The Washington Post Published 5:21 am PST, Monday, March 4, 2019 WASHINGTON - After months of deliberation, former attorney general Eric Holder said Monday that he will not join the crowded and still-growing Democratic presidential field. "Though I will not run for president in 2020, I will continue to fight for the future of our country," Holder said in a Washington Post op-ed in which he said Democrats "have a host of good options" for candidates to take on President Trump. Eric Holder Blasts Comey for Violating ‘Long-Standing’ DOJ Policies
Eric Holder, who served from 2009 to 2015, penned a scathing opinion piece in The Washington Post taking aim at FBI Director James Comey. He said that Comey’s decision to write a letter to Congress on Friday which informed them of newly discovered Hillary Clinton emails is a violation of long-standing DOJ policies.“The department has a practice of not commenting on ongoing investigations. Indeed, except in exceptional circumstances, the department will not even acknowledge the existence of an investigation. The department also has a policy of not taking unnecessary action close in time to Election Day that might influence an election’s outcome,” Holder wrote. He said these policies are put in place so as not to cast a “public suspicion on public officials who have done nothing wrong.”Holder went further, saying that not only did Comey violate these policies, he “negatively affected public trust in both the … [Read more...] about Eric Holder Blasts Comey for Violating ‘Long-Standing’ DOJ Policies
