China’s Wang Yi slams U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy ahead of Quad meet
Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting of the India, U.S., Australia and Japan Quad grouping in Tokyo, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has hit out at the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy and accused Washington of trying to sow discord in the region. Speaking to reporters following talks on Sunday with visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, Mr. Wang said the strategy was “concocted by the United States under the banner of ‘freedom and openness’” and Washington was “keen to gang up with ‘small circles’ and change China’s neighbourhood environment.” His comments came just ahead of Tuesday’s Quad meet in Tokyo to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some Chinese officials have called the group a “small circle” and part of an attempt to create “an Asian NATO”, a charge that its members have rejected pointing to the group’s varying cooperation and India not being a treaty ally of the U.S.. Mr. Wang also took aim at the new … [Read more...] about China’s Wang Yi slams U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy ahead of Quad meet

Consumer groups want all food-related APs abolished
PETALING JAYA: Reducing the red tape may help address the rising cost of living and food shortages, say consumer associations. Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) president Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason ( pic ) said the Approved Permit (AP) requirement should be abolished across the board to bring in more imports and allow more food industry players to come in to ensure there is sufficient supply in the market. “(There must be) total abolition of APs. The government must also make trade practices much easier. “Too many licensing requirements is a waste of time,” he said. Marimuthu added that the government should assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in producing enough food for the people. Efforts must also be made to increase employment opportunities and welfare allocations for vulnerable groups, and ensure that more lower-income people have access to education and affordable healthcare, he added. Fomca chief executive officer Saravanan Thambirajah … [Read more...] about Consumer groups want all food-related APs abolished
Donald Trump set for slew of primary losses as midterms strategy unravels
Former President Donald Trump 's run of endorsing midterm candidates who go on to win their respective elections faces being blemished further as more of his picks face defeat in Tuesday's races. On Tuesday, elections for GOP candidates take place in four states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and Texas. As with other state primaries, Trump has backed a number of candidates , including incumbents already favorites to win their races. Where Trump has taken the biggest risk in the GOP gubernatorial race in Georgia, where he has supported former Senator David Perdue over the popular Republican Governor Brian Kemp . Trump has singled out Kemp for repeated criticism and attack after the governor failed to support the former president's baseless claims of widespread election fraud in the Peach State surrounding the 2020 election. It appears that the risk has not paid off. According to a Fox News poll published on May 18, Kemp holds an overwhelming 32-point lead over Perdue … [Read more...] about Donald Trump set for slew of primary losses as midterms strategy unravels
City hospital performs cross-blood group liver transplantation
Four patients underwent cross blood group liver transplantation at a hospital here recently. All of them are doing well, according to the doctors who performed the procedure. Director of Institute of Liver Diseases at MGM Healthcare S. Thiagarajan said the hospital had been performing incompatible blood group (ABOi) liver transplant surgeries for a year. Manchin admits his brand of Democrat is a losing strategy
Senator Joe Manchin acknowledged that moderate Democrats like himself are seemingly less popular among voters these days as he addressed a series of recent wins for progressives. "The bases are looking for something that's more sensational, I guess, and more divisive," Manchin told CNN 's Manu Raju about Rep. Conor Lamb's loss in Pennsylvania and Rep. Kurt Schrader's likely loss in Oregon. Establishment Democrats were dealt a blow in Tuesday's primaries after progressive challengers appeared to edge out their more centrist rivals in a number of races. In Pennsylvania, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who backed Senator Bernie Sanders ' 2016 presidential run, easily won the Democratic primary against Lamb with nearly 60 percent of the vote. The Senate race in Pennsylvania has been one of the most-watched races this year, albeit there has been more focus on the GOP primary that features a Trump endorsement. Fetterman ran on a campaign as a foil to moderates like Manchin and … [Read more...] about Manchin admits his brand of Democrat is a losing strategy
A very high-risk strategy indeed
Life has undoubtedly been a nightmare for former Welsh Secretary Ron Davies since he was forced to resign nine months ago, following his "moment of madness" on Clapham Common. That the nightmare continues, however, is partly down to Mr Davies himself. Rumours that Davies, whose public image was always that of a tough macho Welshman, had been cruising for gay sex on the Common before he was robbed and relieved of his car last October, were probably circulating before he had even made his statement to police. The MP's unconvincing explanation of why he was talking to complete strangers in the dark in a well-known gay pick-up area - and why, if it was all so innocent, he later felt the need to resign - has only provided room for continuing speculation and innuendo. Since then Davies, married with a teenage girl, and once regarded as the most talented politician to emerge in Wales for a generation, has squirmed and twisted in the glaring spotlight of unrelenting media … [Read more...] about A very high-risk strategy indeed
Party polls will set PKR’s direction and strategy for GE15, says academician
KLANG: The PKR party polls results, which are scheduled to be released on Saturday (May 28) night or Sunday (May 29), are seen by many as one of the catalysts to set the party’s future direction. It is believed the results will also foretell the party’s modus operandi in the next general election as well as indicate whether it would nurture and strengthen its ties with partner parties DAP and Amanah or otherwise. Universiti Sains Malaysia’s political science expert Prof Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said the new leadership may have to make some changes for the party’s future survival. "They have to seek out ways, even if it's critical of the party’s top leadership as well as the party as a whole, to ensure PKR’s survival," said Dr Sivamurugan. He said in the event incumbent vice-president Rafizi Ramli wins the deputy president’s position, he has to put aside his differences with the other leaders to move forward as a team. "The differences have to be ironed out or put aside for the … [Read more...] about Party polls will set PKR’s direction and strategy for GE15, says academician
