Two tennis fans have become the talk of social media ever since their video from Wimbledon has gone viral. The footage is from Liam Broady’s Court Three clash with Diego Schwartzman and the two men can be seen with two glasses of champagne. Further into the video, the dark-haired man reaches for something in his lap and then sprinkles it in his friend’s drink. The pair, however, did not realise that the cameras were focussed on them at that time, airing on BBC for its coverage of the tennis tournament. It is not clear as to what was there in the glasses but netizens, as always, have made certain assumptions. As per Sportbible, one person on Twitter wrote, “When you bring your Glastonbury leftovers to Wimbledon.” Another wrote, “Mandy Murray.” While some people found the the footage funny, others said that this is not the right place. One person asked, “Who tf wants to gurn at Wimbledon? Couldn’t think of anything more boring.” “Each to their own and that but I’m struggling to see … [Read more...] about Wimbledon Spectator Spotted Putting Something into Another Man’s Drink on Live TV

Why are right-wingers so afraid of modern art?
Art is a weird industry. It’s one of the few disciplines where people become absolutely incensed at the implication that they might not know everything about it, even when they have no real interest in it. People will claim that a particular piece of art is pointless, or pretentious, or stupid, with all the confidence of somebody walking up to an orthopaedic surgeon and telling them that it’s idiotic that there are so many different names for bones. “Hand bones, leg bones, what’s the difference?” they cry. “Bones are just sticks that keep our meat from sloshing around. Why do you eggheads always have to make everything so complicated?” Nothing riles people up more than modern art, and nobody gets more riled up about modern art than conservatives. It feels like every few weeks some right-wing influencer will have a hot take about some piece of abstract expressionism or a readymade sculpture, declaring that they’ve figured it out, they’ve cracked the code. Modern art is a … [Read more...] about Why are right-wingers so afraid of modern art?

Tax policy for the weakest, please
KIM HYUN-YE The author is a Tokyo correspondent of the JoongAng Ilbo. “Fill ‘er up!” When was the last time you went to a gas station to fill up on gas? Gas prices have been skyrocketing. A driver pumping gas at a gas station near Ginza, Tokyo, on June 29 felt the sting. That day, he put in about 35.44 liters. At 185 yen ($1.40) per liter, that equals a bill of about 62,565 won ($42). The average gas price in Japan according to the Japan Resources and Energy Agency on the same day was 175 yen as of June 27. The gas price went up by 1 yen per liter, or about 9.5 won, but it caused a debate because of the tax on the gas prices. The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry started to provide subsidies to the industry to stabilize gas prices at the end of January. The standard for the subsidy set by the government is 170 yen per liter. If prices go beyond that, oil refiners and importers would be provided with a subsidy so that the actual price that customers purchase at … [Read more...] about Tax policy for the weakest, please
6 indicted in cryptocurrency and NFT fraud schemes that netted more than $130 million
LOS ANGELES — Six people have been indicted in four separate cryptocurrency fraud cases involving more than $130 million in losses, including the single largest NFT scheme charged to date, federal prosecutors said this week. That scheme, prosecutors said, involved a group called the Baller Ape Club that claimed to sell NFTs, or nonfungible tokens, in the form of cartoon images of apes. A group with a similar theme, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, is one of the world's most popular NFT distributors, with endorsements from Snoop Dogg, Tom Brady and other celebrities. Its NFTs have sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars, though prices have dropped sharply in recent weeks. Le Anh Tuan, 26, of Vietnam was charged in California with one count each of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit international money laundering in connection with the Baller Ape Club scheme. Shortly after Baller Ape Club's public sales began, Tuan and unnamed co-conspirators "rug-pulled" … [Read more...] about 6 indicted in cryptocurrency and NFT fraud schemes that netted more than $130 million
Trump Vindicated: Germany Prepares for ‘Chaos’ If Russian Gas Lost
A potential cutting-off of Russian gas would lead to recession and “chaotic conditions”, various German officials are now warning. Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning that Germany’s addiction to Russian gas would have extremely negative long-term consequences appears to have been proven prophetic, with officials in the country now warning of “chaotic conditions” and severe economic recession should they lose access to Moscow’s supply. The warnings come as Germany starts to fret that when the Kremlin turns off gas on July 11th to do annual maintenance on the gas line between the two countries, Russian authorities will use technical problems as an excuse so as not to turn the supply back on again — a move that would reportedly see the German economy tank by around €200 billion within six months. According to various European and German news sources, the country’s officials are now firefighting regarding the possible worsening of the already severe gas crisis which … [Read more...] about Trump Vindicated: Germany Prepares for ‘Chaos’ If Russian Gas Lost

He tweeted: “Ouch. Inflation is far too important a problem for the White House to keep making statements like this. It’s either straight ahead misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics.” Ouch. Inflation is far too important a problem for the White House to keep making statements like this.
