A GERMAN tourist has been trampled to death by an elephant in Zimbabwe as she tried to take photos of it. The 49-year-old was at the Mana Pools game reserve north of the country, where she reportedly left the vehicle she was travelling in, putting herself in great danger. The woman was with a group of tourists who encountered a herd of elephants upon entering the park. Tinashe Farawo, spokesman of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, said: “The information we have is that the tourists encountered a herd of elephants when they were entering the park and they started taking pictures. “We do not know what irritated the animals which resulted in the woman being attacked. She passed on last night (Wednesday) from injuries.” Officials have not yet released the woman’s name. HORROR footage has emerged of the moment a man is trampled to death by a wild bull elephant in India - after being deserted by his fleeing friends. The deadly giant goes on the rampage after it spots crowds of local people gathered near a watering hole in Jharkhand, east India. Several elephants had gathered around the river to drink in the waters and a man is seen casually swimming nearby. Undeterred by the presence of the herd, the man carries on with his leisurely swim. Suddenly, one of the elephants wades into the water and moves menacingly towards the man. Sensing imminent trouble, the swimmer wisely decides to head for dry land. However, as he tries to get out of the water, the man twists his ankle and falls to the ground. World India Bears Selfie A taxi driver has been killed by a wounded bear in the Indian state of Odisha after trying to take a selfie with the animal. Prabhu Bhatara was driving a group home from a wedding in the eastern state when he stopped to relieve himself, the Hindustan Times reported. On his way back to the jeep, Bhatara spotted a wounded bear by the roadside. Thinking it would be a good chance for a selfie, he approached the wild animal. His fellow travelers urged Bhatara to stay a safe distance from the predator, but Bhatara’s desire for a photo brought him within striking distance of the bear, which promptly grabbed the man and mauled him to death. According to forest ranger Dhanurjaya Mohapatra, “Bhatara died on the spot.” His fellow passengers captured the attack on video, as others threw rocks and sticks at the bear in an attempt to free Bhatara.
