0 Have your say A growing “crisis” over campus censorship at Edinburgh University is driving the success of a new free speech platform where nothing is off-limits, according to the two students who founded it. The Broad website has been launched to counter the emergence of “no platforming” and “safe space” initiatives which have hit university societies and speakers which are deemed unpalatable in controversial areas such as abortion or immigration.It was founded by politics student Joe Kleeman, 19, and Oliver Kraftman, 20, who studies politics and economics. In the space of a few months the pair have recruited a team of eight editorial staff as articles flooded in, mainly from fellow Edinburgh students, but also elsewhere around the UK, reflecting widespread frustration over what is perceived as the growing climate of “campus censorship”. A raft of urgent repairs are needed after an independent inspection uncovered more safety flaws in the construction of the building.Parents and local councillors, led by Gavin Corbett of the Greens, have insisted more should have been done to prevent the crisis that has engulfed the administration, forcing chief executive Andrew Kerr into an embarrassing press call yesterday where he shifted the blame onto contractors.Mr Kerr admitted red tape stood in the way of terminating the existing contract with Edinburgh Schools Partnership (ESP), the body responsible for building and maintaining 17 schools in the city. Born in 1945, he carried out numerous acts of rape, sexual assault and murder from the age of 16. In 1970, after getting out of prison for murdering an eight-year-old girl, he married trainee nurse Sarah Hamilton. Sarah gives birth to their son two years later - making him around 45 years old if still alive now. Sinclair himself is currently in jail, said to be extremely ill and frail. ClimateLaunchpad, which offers dedicated coaching to help shape green ideas into business plans, is open for applications until May 30.Budding inventors simply have to submit an idea or innovation that could have a positive environmental impact.Those selected to join ClimateLaunchpad, which is this year running in more than 42 countries around the world as well as Scotland, will get dedicated support to fast track their idea into a business and bypass pitfalls along the way.
