PGA Tour Says Players Knew Consequences of Joining LIV Golf
The PGA Tour asked a federal judge in San Francisco to deny the appeal of three suspended players who joined Saudi-backed LIV Golf and now want to compete in the tour’s lucrative postseason, arguing the players knew the consequences two months ago. Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford filed a temporary restraining order last week, separate from 10 players who filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour . The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. PDT Tuesday in San Jose, California, two days before the first of three FedEx Cup playoff events in the chase for the $18 million prize. The FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, has a $15 million purse, and the top 70 players advance to the second postseason event in Wilmington, Delaware. Gooch (No. 20), Jones (No. 65) and Swafford (No. 67) are among nine players who have joined LIV Golf and finished the regular season among the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings . The other six who joined LIV Golf are not … [Read more...] about PGA Tour Says Players Knew Consequences of Joining LIV Golf
U.S. Senate passes Biden’s mega health, climate bill; House to vote next
Democrats pushed their election-year economic package to Senate passage Sunday, a hard-fought compromise less ambitious than President Joe Biden’s original domestic vision but one that still meets deep-rooted party goals of slowing global warming, moderating pharmaceutical costs and taxing immense corporations. The estimated $740 billion package heads next to the House, where lawmakers are poised to deliver on Biden's priorities, a stunning turnaround of what had seemed a lost and doomed effort that suddenly roared back to political life. Democrats held united, 51-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote. “It's been a long, tough and winding road, but at last, at last we have arrived,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., ahead of final votes. “The Senate is making history. I am confident the Inflation Reduction Act will endure as one of the defining legislative measures of the 21st century.” Republican amendments shunned Senators … [Read more...] about U.S. Senate passes Biden’s mega health, climate bill; House to vote next

China Announces Major Gasoline Price Cut After Biden Sends Strategic Reserve Oil to Beijing
China’s government-run Xinhua News Agency announced on Tuesday that the Communist Party would lower gasoline and diesel prices nationwide, a move following growing purchases of cheap Russian petroleum products and of American gasoline leftist President Joe Biden released from the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). “The prices will go down by 130 yuan (about 19 U.S. dollars) per tonne and 125 yuan per tonne, respectively, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC),” Xinhua reported . The communist regime outlet noted that the price drop was the fifth of its kind this year and fourth since June. The government agency announcing the move, Xinhua detailed, acted in response to a drop in international oil prices – partially fueled by a collapse in demand in China, where the Communist Party regularly, and arbitrarily, imposes sweeping Chinese coronavirus lockdowns in major cities without warning. Xinhua did not report what gasoline and diesel … [Read more...] about China Announces Major Gasoline Price Cut After Biden Sends Strategic Reserve Oil to Beijing
New Life for Moore’s Law
Interstate 580 connects Oakland, on San Francisco Bay, with Stockton and the farming towns of California's Central Valley. Heading east from Oakland, I-580 crosses the modest Coastal Range at the Altamont Pass. Altamont was famous a generation ago as the site of a Rolling Stones concert that turned into a riot. Now it features an eerie conjunction of two different kinds of "farming." Herds of cattle graze among thousands of pylons and derricks supporting giant propeller-shaped wind turbines—components of the world's largest "wind farm." When wind roars through the pass, the blades all turn, generating nearly enough electricity to power a city the size of San Francisco. A series of low white buildings nearby adds to the sense that the area has been taken straight from a Back to the Future movie. These buildings, in the town of Livermore, house two national laboratories— Lawrence Livermore and the California branch of Sandia —where classified work on nuclear weapons and nuclear … [Read more...] about New Life for Moore’s Law
‘I was so poor I had to wear girls’ clothes to school – now I live life of luxury’
When Zak Shafi was growing up, his family did everything they could to make ends meet. The 23-year-old had no idea how short of cash they were until a classmate spotted his school trousers on the changing room hook in PE and noticed he was wearing girls' uniform - and started to bully him. He tells The Mirror: "I went to school at Wembley High, it was a state school, it improved massively during my time there but to begin with I think it used to be one of the worst performing schools in the country. It wasn't all that at all. A lot of my clothes growing up came from my family, they were passed down to me, little did I know there was a difference between girls' and boys' trousers - the boys had buttons on the back pockets and the girls didn't. "One day in PE one of the guys asked who was wearing girls' trousers as they were hanging up, and I thought it couldn't be me - but it was. I asked my parents why I was wearing girls' trousers - they always did their best but they said they … [Read more...] about ‘I was so poor I had to wear girls’ clothes to school – now I live life of luxury’
Husband slammed for forcing mother of 11-week-old baby to sleep on sofa
A young mom has prompted outrage in a post on Mumsnet describing her living situation with her husband and 11-week-old son. In the post, she described how her husband works as a police officer, and is a light sleeper. She said that before their child was born he would fall asleep on the sofa, "but now that DC [darling child] is born wants to have the bedroom himself and thinks that I should take the bassinet into the living room as he wakes up when the baby wakes and then can't get back to sleep. "I understand he has to be alert for his job, but feel like it's unfair I have to lug baby and bassinet downstairs every night. we don't have a spare room, live in a one-bed and can't afford to upsize yet. Our baby is 11 weeks." She added in a later update: "I wouldn't mind so much if he helped me more on his days off, but on his days off he thinks he needs a rest so I don't really get a break. "He also still expects me to clean and make food still. I've talked about this before but … [Read more...] about Husband slammed for forcing mother of 11-week-old baby to sleep on sofa
Chris Bassitt is proving to be exactly the pitcher the Mets need in their rotation
There is nobody quite like Chris Bassitt. The best word to describe the Mets’ right-handed pitcher might be goofy. Aside from being another unshakable workhorse in the rotation, the other main thing Bassitt has brought to the Mets’ clubhouse is an air of self-assurance. Bassitt is extremely comfortable in his own skin, which leads to doing things a little differently than other starters. He’ll engage in heated ping-pong games in the clubhouse on the days he’s starting. He’s not afraid to speak his mind, as evidenced by him saying he regrets telling the Mets about his positive COVID test in July. On the mound, he’s very unique as well, throwing six different pitches that range from 93 to 71 mph on their average velocity. Those pitches neutralize MLB hitters every fifth day, as they consistently produce weak contact and ground balls for about seven innings. On Monday, Bassitt pitched six or more innings for the ninth consecutive time, extending a career-high streak. He left after … [Read more...] about Chris Bassitt is proving to be exactly the pitcher the Mets need in their rotation
