Washington: Hillary Clinton on Sunday posted a joke letter on Twitter supposedly sent by John F. Kennedy during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, written in the excitable style of US President Donald Trump's recent letter to Turkey. The parody letter, which has been doing the rounds for some days on social media, is written on mocked-up White House letter paper and addressed to Russia's then leader Nikita Khrushchev. "Don't be a dick, ok? Get your missiles out of Cuba," starts the letter pretending to be from president Kennedy. "Everybody will say 'Yay! Khrushchev! You're the best!' But if you don't everybody will be like 'what an asshole' and call your garbage country 'The Soviet Bunion'." The letter echoes the bizarre tone of Trump's October 9 letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in which he warned that he would wreck Turkey's economy if its invasion of Syria went too far. Howard Dean: January 6 Probe Showing Trump Is a Crook — ‘Filth from Beginning to End’
Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 riot was showing the American people that former President Donald Trump is a “crook.” Dean said, “You got all this stuff about Trump and whether he is a crook, but it almost doesn’t matter whether he is a crook or not. I am for the rule of law, and I think he should be treated like every other American citizen. I will leave it to you gentlemen to figure all that out. But what the American public is seeing every single day is this guy is a crook. Because when somebody gets charged, the American people, contrary to the jury instructions, believes they are guilty. It may not be right, but that is how the system is.” He continued, “I think the guy a crook. I grew up in New York. He’s never done an honest thing in his life. People don’t lend him money in New York because they know they will never get paid back, and all this stuff … [Read more...] about Howard Dean: January 6 Probe Showing Trump Is a Crook — ‘Filth from Beginning to End’
SCOTUS delivers blow to Trump, allowing Biden to end “Remain in Mexico”
Former President Donald Trump was dealt a blow on Thursday when the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in favor of President Joe Biden and his administration regarding asylum seekers in Mexico seeking immigration hearings without proper documentation. The court issued a 5-4 decision in Biden v. Texas regarding the Trump administration's Remain in Mexico policy, also known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), enacted in 2019 and prevented thousands of migrants from entering the U.S. while going through legal proceedings. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion, joined by Justices Stephen Breyer , Brett Kavanaugh , Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, in favor of ending the Trump-era policy while Justices Samuel Alito , Amy Coney Barrett , Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas dissented. The decision came after other recent controversial decisions made by the conservative-leaning Court regarding concealed-carry gun laws in New York and the overturning of … [Read more...] about SCOTUS delivers blow to Trump, allowing Biden to end “Remain in Mexico”
Secret Service ties to Trump ring alarm bells amid Jan 6. revelations
The relationship between the Secret Service and former President Donald Trump is ringing alarm bells amid revelations from testimony given to the House of Representatives' Select Committee that is investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified before the committee on Tuesday that Tony Ornato, who is currently assistant director of the Secret Service Office of Training, told her that Trump became irate while in his vehicle on January 6 after he was told he could not go to the Capitol. Hutchinson said that Ornato had told her Trump had tried to grab the steering wheel and that Ornato had made those comments in a room with Robert Engel, the Secret Service agent in charge of Trump's detail on the day. Ornato was White House deputy chief of staff for operations at the time. He had been permitted to leave his Secret Service role temporarily in order to serve as deputy chief of staff in an unusual move for the service. … [Read more...] about Secret Service ties to Trump ring alarm bells amid Jan 6. revelations
Trump Rails Against Cassidy Hutchinson Testimony — ‘The Woman Is Living in Fantasy Land’
During an interview that aired Thursday on Newsmax TV’s “Wake Up America,” former President Donald Trump slammed former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Trump called Hutchinson’s account “absolutely crazy” and said she was “living in fantasy land.” “I thought it was absolutely crazy,” Trump told Newsmax TV “Wake Up America” host Rob Finnerty. “This committee is, a lot of people say, illegally formed. But when you look at what they’re doing, and you look at what they’re saying, and what they’re doing to the country, the good news is, a lot of people aren’t watching, a lot of people aren’t listening to it, but they’re trying to do real harm.” “This lady yesterday, is something wrong with her? Is there something wrong? She said I jumped from a car, and I started … strangling a Secret Service agent who I know very well? I grabbed the steering wheel of a car? Fact Check: Is Cassidy Hutchinson “on record” about Trump job after Jan 6?
Former Trump White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson has faced significant scrutiny since her testimony during the January 6 hearings. Hutchinson, who was an aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, alleged to the House Select committee hearing that former President Donald Trump lunged at Secret Service personnel and tried to take the wheel of the presidential limousine in the lead-up to the Capitol riots , among other allegations. Trump says Hutchinson's claims, made under oath, are false and downplayed her role in his team. Among Trump's rebuttals are that he refused Hutchinson's requests to join him among other staffers at his Mar-a-Lago retreat after he lost the 2020 presidential election. This has led some to examine the depth of Hutchinson's involvement in his team around January 6 and what actions she took in response to the riots. The Claim A tweet, posted on June 29, 2022, claims that Hutchinson had gone on record just a week after the January 6 riots to … [Read more...] about Fact Check: Is Cassidy Hutchinson “on record” about Trump job after Jan 6?
Trump committed “20-year felony” with Jan. 6 actions, Glenn Kirschner says
Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner said Donald Trump committed a "20-year felony" on the day of the U.S. Capitol riot, if testimony this week by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson is accurate. Hutchinson said in her testimony Tuesday before the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack against the U.S. Capitol that Trump was aware that his supporters were armed with weapons before urging them to protest at the federal building. The former aide to Mark Meadows, Trump's White House chief of staff, testified that during a conversation just before Trump's speech that day at the Ellipse, the president was told some of the people in Washington, D.C., would not come through security detectors and join the rally crowd because they were carrying weapons they did not want to be confiscated. Trump responded by saying "something to the effect of: 'Take the effing [magnetometers] away. They're not here to hurt me. Let them in, let my people in. They … [Read more...] about Trump committed “20-year felony” with Jan. 6 actions, Glenn Kirschner says
“I was a Secret Service agent. I wouldn’t have taken Trump to the Capitol either”
If I had been working on Trump's security detail on January 6, I would have made the same decision as Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Robert Engel to not go to the Capitol based on the known escalating threats. I worked in the Secret Service for 14 years and worked at the White House from 2009 to 2014. My job as a Special Agent was to coordinate the necessary security measures to protect President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House and while they traveled domestically and internationally; identifying threats and putting security control measures in place. I found Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony at the January 6 committee shocking, to say the least. To me, it seems unlikely that the President lunged toward the steering wheel or tried to choke the Agent. But did the President yell and scream at this decision? He probably did. It sounds like he was very upset. Anyone who heard the testimony should feel that, if true, the behavior of the … [Read more...] about “I was a Secret Service agent. I wouldn’t have taken Trump to the Capitol either”
The Jan. 6 hearings are great for Ron DeSantis
While Ron DeSantis has been critical of the House select committee's investigation into the events leading up to the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the Florida governor could be the one who benefits most from it politically amid continuing speculation he is preparing a run for the presidency. Neither Trump or DeSantis has formally declared their intentions for the White House in 2024, but both have long been thought as the two main frontrunners who will eventually be battling for the GOP nomination. As the January 6 hearings continue to put Trump at further risk of being the first-ever former president to be charged with a crime, DeSantis looks set to escape completely unharmed by the committee's presentations. More than 18 months after the Capitol riot, DeSantis' name has not been linked to any attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, and he was not present in Washington, D.C. at the time. DeSantis, who did condemn the violence at the Capitol in the … [Read more...] about The Jan. 6 hearings are great for Ron DeSantis
Israel Says Iran Lied on Nuclear Arms, Tehran Likens Him to ‘Boy Who Cried Wolf’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday stepped up pressure on the United States to pull out of a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, presenting what he called evidence of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons programme in a prime-time address on Israeli TV. Intelligence experts and diplomats said he did not seem to have presented a "smoking gun" showing that Iran had violated the agreement, although he may have helped make a case on behalf of hawks in US President Donald Trump's administration who want to scrap it. Most of the purported evidence Netanyahu unveiled dated to the period before the 2015 accord was signed, although he said Iran had also kept important files on nuclear technology since then, and continued adding to its "nuclear weapons knowledge". Tehran dismissed Netanyahu as "the boy who cried wolf", and called his presentation propaganda. Trump has threatened to pull the United States out of the international deal unless it is renegotiated by May 12. After … [Read more...] about Israel Says Iran Lied on Nuclear Arms, Tehran Likens Him to ‘Boy Who Cried Wolf’
