Critics denounced the border agents’ action as overkill, but Mr Trump kept to a hard line. “They were being rushed by some very tough people and they used tear gas,” Mr Trump said. “Here’s the bottom line: Nobody is coming into our country unless they come in legally.” At a roundtable meeting in Mississippi on Monday, Mr Trump seemed to acknowledge that children were affected, asking: “Why is a parent running up into an area where they know the tear gas is forming and it’s going to be formed and they were running up with a child?” He said it was “a very minor form of the tear gas … [Read more...] about Donald Trump blames parents for exposing migrant children to tear gas

PRESIDENT Donald Trump could be visiting the UK in the Summer, with an official announcement of the visit expected within days. Trump was expected to pay a controversial visit to the UK in February but cancelled at the last minute in a bizarre spat over the new US embassy. Here's the latest. When will Donald Trump visit the UK? Donald Trump could be on his way to the UK in July for a working visit. The US President's administration is expected to make an official announcement within a few days. The working meeting will be a much more low-key affair than a full state visit. Speculation of a potential visit comes months after a meeting between Theresa May and Trump at Davos in January 2018. The President and Prime Minister agreed to finalise the details just weeks after he backed out of coming to open the US embassy. A No10 spokesperson said: "The PM and President concluded by asking officials to work together on finalising the details of a visit by the President to the UK … [Read more...] about When will Donald Trump come to the UK and what’s the difference between a state visit and a working visit?
POLITICS 05/25/2018 09:12 am ET “Our results suggest that, given narrow margins of victories in each vote, bots’ effect was likely marginal but possibly large enough to affect the outcomes." By Mary Papenfuss Twitter bots could have swayed the presidential election enough to account for Donald Trump’s margin of victory, according to new research. Automated tweeting played a small but potentially decisive role in Trump’s win, according to a working paper released by the nonprofit National Bureau of Economic Research. The research suggests that bots touting Trump or attacking rival Hillary Clinton could have accounted for 3.23 percentage points of the vote for president, putting Trump over the top. Clinton won the popular vote, and a small added margin in critical districts could have put her over the top in some states and affected the Electoral College total. The research also suggests that the bots may have handed Brexit a win by … [Read more...] about Twitter Bots May Have Delivered Donald Trump’s Victory, Research Paper Says
POLITICS 07/15/2018 08:14 am ET The Swedes, who heartily dislike the U.S. president, may soon give his anti-immigrant allies their best election result ever. By Akbar Shahid Ahmed President Donald Trump and his allies have been loudly trying to export their core policies of slashing non-white immigration and torpedoing efforts at global cooperation. But with a political win in Sweden, their next big target, looking increasingly likely, the American president might be better served by a new strategy: keeping quiet. The Sweden Democrats, a party long defined by opposition to immigration, is expected to secure its best election result ever when the country goes to the polls in September. It hopes to become the king-maker for a likely future coalition government and party members have even suggested it could become the largest party in the Riksdag, the Swedish parliament. Unlike its hardline anti-immigrant counterparts in neighboring countries, however, the party is … [Read more...] about Trumpism Is Thriving In Sweden By Carefully Ignoring Donald Trump
