Francis X. Donnelly The Detroit News Published 10:40 PM EST Dec 10, 2018 They were a curious couple in an obscure corner of the publishing world. Lovina Eicher was an Amish mother of eight from Michigan who had never written before. Kevin Williams was a Catholic entrepreneur from Ohio with a trail of customer complaints and unpaid bills. For a dozen years, they produced the only national column written by an Amish person. They grew so close Eicher named her youngest child after Williams. But the partnership ruptured amid accusations Williams had cheated Eicher out of money. Now they’re rivals with dueling Amish columns in newspapers across the country. Eicher writes for a different editor while Williams oversees a new writer. “It was sad,” she said. “When you trust someone, you don’t think it can go any other way.” Eicher, 47, lives in southwestern Michigan but, to guard her privacy, didn’t want the town identified. AT&T’s WarnerMedia accuses DOJ with ‘collaborating’ with Dish in HBO dispute
By Kenneth Li (Reuters) - AT&T Inc's <T.N> WarnerMedia has accused the U.S. Department of Justice of "collaborating" with Dish Network Corp <DISH.O> in a high profile dispute over carrying HBO and Cinemax. For the first time in its 40-year history, Warner Media's HBO, known for its award winning TV series "Game of Thrones" and "The Sopranos," went dark on Dish's satellite television service on Thursday after a disagreement over a new distribution deal. About 2.5 million of Dish's 13 million customers subscribe to HBO or Cinemax, according to one person familiar with the matter. AT&T also owns DirecTV, a satellite TV rival to Dish. WarnerMedia said it had offered to extend the contract to continue discussing a new deal but Dish executives declined to negotiate further. "Dish’s proposals and actions made it clear they never intended to seriously negotiate an agreement," said Simon Sutton, HBO President and Chief Revenue Officer. The dispute could be a public … [Read more...] about AT&T’s WarnerMedia accuses DOJ with ‘collaborating’ with Dish in HBO dispute
Mrs May needs every ounce of courage over the next fortnight to make sure Britain isn’t railroaded into a bad deal Brexit by Brussels
THERESA May is right to block the EU’s latest stunt — a bid to stampede her into a disastrous deal for Britain. Their strategy is transparent. They are telling the world an agreement is all but done. That it just needs Mrs May to stop mucking about and sign up. But their “deal” is merely their wishlist, much of it utterly unacceptable. Take the idea that, to solve the Irish border problem they blew out of all proportion, we should divide up the UK with customs checks between Northern Ireland and the mainland.Or the suggestion that we stay in the Customs Union indefinitely. The EU pretend we would be fully free once they are happy that technology can police the Irish border. But Brussels would NEVER agree that time is right. Why would they? Britain would be exactly where they want us. Trapped for ever, barred from forging a future as an independent trading nation and powerless within the EU too. They wouldn’t give the border issue another thought. Why would … [Read more...] about Mrs May needs every ounce of courage over the next fortnight to make sure Britain isn’t railroaded into a bad deal Brexit by Brussels
Jeremy Hunt warns European Union leaders to ‘step back from the abyss’ of a no-deal Brexit
JEREMY Hunt has urged EU leaders to "step back from the abyss" of a no-deal Brexit and engage with Theresa May's Chequers plan. This week's Salzburg summit saw angry clashes and the Foreign Secretary said it was "counterproductive" to "insult" Britain's referendum vote and to say the only way the UK could legally leave was by "breaking up your country". "What we need to be doing in a situation like this is bringing people together," he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. "This is a time for people in the EU to step back from the abyss, to sit down and to talk to us about how we can make these sensible, concrete proposals actually work." After EU leaders meeting in Austria on Thursday warned a key element of the Chequers plan would not work, Mr Hunt called them to engage with Britain in a "spirit of politeness and decency" to find an agreed solution. However, he did not rule out the prospect that the Government could now seek a simple, Canada-style free trade agreement - favoured by … [Read more...] about Jeremy Hunt warns European Union leaders to ‘step back from the abyss’ of a no-deal Brexit
Brands try to convince new generations products aren’t just for their parents

When Kellogg’s Special K started a campaign to appeal to younger women last year, its ad showed women engaged in energetic activities, along with an affirmation: “We eat.” Some found it condescending and patronizing to portray “eating” as some feat that women had accomplished. Others found it confusing since everybody eats. less Boxes of Kellogg's Special K cereal sit on display in a market in Pittsburgh, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018.
