With new owners, Florida Project motel dwellers must leave
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Residents at a motel along a tourist strip not far from Walt Disney World that was used as the setting for the 2017 film “The Florida Project" were told that they must vacate on short notice because the complex has been sold to another owner. Residents of the Magic Castle Inn & Suites were told last Monday that the hotel had been purchased and the new owners were forcing everyone out, local media reported. Because the Magic Castle was a motel, the new owners don't have to follow the same eviction procedures that a landlord would for removing tenants from a rental apartment. “Now I have to find a home and a job,” Heather Squires, who paid for her room by working at the motel, told the Orlando Sentinel. “That’s a lot to dump on someone in less than 24 hours.” The lavender-painted hotel was the setting for the movie that, through the eyes of a young girl, told a story of poverty and resilience at the pay-by-the-week motel that was the home of last resort … [Read more...] about With new owners, Florida Project motel dwellers must leave

Man’s mystery mountain death FINALLY solved as boot is discovered 50 years later
A shocking story of brotherly betrayal that gripped the world of mountaineering for over 50 years has been put to rest after the discovery of a climber's boot previously entombed in a Himalayan glacier. The boot, belonging to Geunther Messner, a young Italian climber who died in 1970 on the slopes of Naga Parbat in Pakistan, backs up his brother's story that he had been swept away in an avalanche. Geunther and his brother Reinhold Messner, who went on to become of the world's most famous climbers, had been trying to climb the 26,660ft mountain when tragedy struck. Reinhold has always claimed his brother was swept away in an avalanche but rumours persisted he had abandoned his brother to die on the mountain in an attempt to win the glory of reaching the top alone. Pet owners reveal biggest “pet peeves” around owning furry friend
Cat and dog owners' top 25 pet peeves include the animals stealing food, howling in the night, and walking across the kitchen counter. A quarter of the 1,000 pet owners polled admitted they find their furry friends frustrating, at least some of the time, but 82 percent put the antics down to their cheeky character, while 7 in 10 find their misbehavior "endearing." It also emerged that 59 percent enjoy telling friends when their pets have been up to no good, including when they walk across their laptop while working and begging for food from the table. Other quirky habits included the human-like habits of refusing to go out in the rain and making strange noises in their sleep. "Like humans, pets have strong personalities, and for many they are a key companion and member of the family, especially if they've been by our side for a while, like my dogs Barney and Spiderman," said Helen Skelton, a TV presenter and spokesperson for insurance provider Petplan, which commissioned the … [Read more...] about Pet owners reveal biggest “pet peeves” around owning furry friend
