Shots were fired in the early hours of Tuesday morning near the home of a state senator in Connecticut, with several bullets hitting the house, though the Democratic senator doesn't believe he was the target. State Senator Gary Winfield wrote on Facebook that everyone was "ok" following the incident. He later took to Twitter to explain that he believed a man passing his home was the intended target. "A couple of bullet holes in the house but we are fine," Winfield's Facebook post said. "I really appreciate all the concern. The younger kids didn't really know what was happening so I let them think it was just us playing so we had to get down low. Will keep monitoring them to see. Otherwise, we are fine." Winfield's official Twitter account later replied to a tweet from News12CT journalist John Craven, who had shared the state senator's Facebook post about the shooting. "Unfortunately a young man who was walking by seemed to be the target," Winfield wrote. Prince Andrew accuser says Jeffrey Epstein’s modelling agent pal raped her 50 times
Prince Andrew’s former sex accuser Virginia Giuffre told a court that a French model agency boss she was introduced to by Jeffrey Epstein raped her at least 50 times. Her claim has emerged as an investigation into the death in February this year of Jean-Luc Brunel in a Paris jail tries to disprove conspiracy theories that he was murdered. Ms Giuffre, 38, told French magistrates in November 2020 that Brunel had committed “no less than 50 non-consensual sex acts”, according to evidence outlined in the French newspaper Le Parisien yesterday. She told of one alleged attack in St Tropez in May 2001 after model Naomi Campbell’s 31st birthday party. Virginia Giuffre gave evidence ( Image: REUTERS) Recalling how Brunel would often rape her at the time, when she was aged 17, Ms Giuffre told the hearing: “The attacks did not stop on the pretext that we were on vacation. After the party, I think I had had a few glasses of champagne and it got sexual.” However, visa details … [Read more...] about Prince Andrew accuser says Jeffrey Epstein’s modelling agent pal raped her 50 times

Going up ▲ ▲ M&S’ LGBT sandwich Marks and Spencer launched an LGBT+ sandwich to celebrate Pride and raise money for charity – but it was met with mixed reactions. The sandwich, which is available to buy in the UK and Ireland, is filled with lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato – to fulfil the LGBT acronym – and comes in rainbow-coloured packaging. Many people praised Marks and Spencer for continuing to campaign for LGBT+ rights. “Love this from @marksandspencer Respect! Live & let live...looks delicious too,” one person wrote on Twitter. However, others responded with scepticism. “LGBT sandwich. These companies are really just taking any swing to seem ‘inclusive’,” one critic commented. The British supermarket said the sandwich was created to raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT), a charity dedicated to helping homeless LGBT+ youth, and Belong to Youth Services, an organisation supporting LGBT+ young people in Ireland. Buffalo shooting: Seven of 10 killed in horrific mall massacre identified
Seven of the 10 people slaughtered by a white supremacist gunman at a US mall have been identified. Twisted teenager Payton Gendron yesterday scrawled the n-word on his rifle before carrying out a massacre at Tops Friendly store in Buffalo, New York. The vicious spree was uploaded on live-streaming platform Twitch where a horrific video showed Gendron mowing down his tragic victims. And in the hours after the attack, a vile 180-page manifesto detailing his absurd motive behind the shooting - in which 11 of the 13 shot were black - was released online. Buffalo Police officers hauled the 18-year-old racist conspiracy theorist into custody yesterday as the identities of his tragic victims began to emerge. Among them was 32-year-old Roberta Drury, who had rushed out to the nearby supermarket to fetch some groceries for her dinner. Think NIL blew up college sports? California is going for the knockout with new bill
Three years after California took the lead in the battle for college athlete rights as the first state to legalize name, image and likeness payments to players, another potentially game-changing bill is on the move through the state legislature in Sacramento. Senate Bill 206, signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in the fall of 2019, made it illegal for the NCAA universities to prohibit third parties from paying college athletes for use of their NILs in endorsements, sponsorships and other appearances. But it did not ask school athletic departments to alter their budgets, which allowed for an easy passageway. In contrast, Senate Bill 1401, named the “College Athlete Race and Gender Equity Act,” cuts right to the heart of the collegiate model and the ideals of amateurism. SB 1401 would require California schools to share 50% of annual revenues in football and men’s and women’s basketball with the athletes, initiating a new era of “pay for play” — and what college sports leaders fear … [Read more...] about Think NIL blew up college sports? Lay off the Bank of England – Tory attacks on this institution should worry us all
It shouldn’t be all that surprising that the Tory government – at cabinet level according to the reports – is taking shots at the Bank of England . Casting about for other people to blame is one of the defining characteristics of Boris Johnson ’s dismal administration. “Always remember that it was the other guy’s fault,” in lurid pink letters is probably framed above the desk of every serving minister. I’m not sure about the font. Comic sans? It’s taken them a while to fully turn their guns on Threadneedle Street, even though control of inflation is the job of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and inflation is jumping up like a superpowered grasshopper with a predator in hot pursuit. The MPC’s problem is that there is precious little it can do about the chief drivers of the current surge. About 80 per cent of the power in the grasshopper’s legs is down to energy and tradeable goods, which the Bank has about as much power to influence as it does tomorrow’s … [Read more...] about Lay off the Bank of England – Tory attacks on this institution should worry us all

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary has warned flight prices could rise by nearly 10% this summer due to soaring demand for European holidays. The budget airline’s chief executive also said there were likely to be ongoing delays at airports, blaming staff shortages. Mr O’Leary said there are “pinch-points” in particular at Heathrow and Manchester , where he claimed “too many people” have been sacked.
