A third of young British men say they need to change their appearance because of the "picture perfect culture" on social media. A survey of more than 2,000 people by health and fitness company Origym also found that it was affecting the mental health of one in 10 of them. Psychologist Rob Willson from the Body Dysmorphic Foundation said: "There's lots of pressure from social media to try to conform to certain stereotypes of an idealised beauty and particularly in men. "This is a real challenge because we're a bit less used to it than women are, we're more recently exposed to these kinds of pressures and regretfully women have been exposed for a lot longer but also there's very little movement at the moment against pressure on men." George Mycock, 26, from Staffordshire, developed muscle dysmorphia, also known as "bigorexia", as a teenager. Advertisement He gained weight after breaking his back playing rugby. GM calls off plan to sell India car plant to China’s Great Wall
General Motors (GM) said on Friday it had called off the sale of a shuttered Indian plant to China’s Great Wall Motor after they failed to obtain regulatory approvals, amid a tougher stance by New Delhi towards investments from Beijing. GM struck a deal in January 2020 to sell the plant to Great Wall, with the Chinese SUV-maker expected to pay up to $300 million as part of a broader plan to invest $1 billion to establish a presence in India's growing car market. The agreement, which was extended twice, expired on June 30. “We have been unable to obtain the required approvals within the time frame of the deal,” George Svigos, executive director of communications at GM International, told Reuters . “Our strategy in India remains unchanged and we will now explore further options for the sale of the site,” he said, adding the company “hopes to achieve a price that reflects the value of the asset”. “Great Wall Motor will keep its attention to the Indian market in the future and … [Read more...] about GM calls off plan to sell India car plant to China’s Great Wall
Common mental health issues among cancer patients
Everyone with cancer experiences it differently, and all emotions are valid and important, regardless of the mix or intensity. Mayo Clinic psychologist and psycho-oncology expert Dr Shawna Ehlers helps patients cope with the burden of their cancer diagnosis. That includes dispelling myths that stress in their lives caused their cancer or that depression must be suffered through during cancer treatment. “If I had one thing that I could tell all cancer patients, it would be that stress does not cause cancer. “That is a common myth that causes a lot of unnecessary worry and guilt,” she says. “People think if only they had not taken that stressful job, or they would have left that stressful marriage, they wouldn’t have cancer. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is to say, ‘That’s absolutely not true. Stress did not cause your cancer. There’s no scientific evidence to prove that.’” What stress actually does Stress can wreak havoc in many ways. The body’s natural … [Read more...] about Common mental health issues among cancer patients

Wimbledon: Former Champion Simona Halep Thumps Magdalena Frech to Reach Last 16
Former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep soared into the fourth round of the Championships on Saturday with a commanding 6-4 6-1 victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech. The 30-year-old Romanian, who returned to the All England Club this year for the first time since winning the grasscourt major in 2019, came into match having beaten Frech in both their previous meetings. Despite a stiff breeze blowing across Court two, Halep started in aggressive fashion to build up a 4-0 lead and although the 92nd-ranked Frech managed to get a break of serve back, it was not enough to stop her opponent from winning the first set. Playing her maiden third-round match at a major, Frech also cancelled out an early break at the start of the second set but Halep regained the lead immediately and celebrated with a clenched fist and repeated slaps on her thigh. Biden Administration Seems Content With High Gas Prices As Americans’ Wallets Take A Hit
The Biden administration is doubling down on having Americans suffer through high gas prices in order to hit back at Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Americans across the country continue to struggle with high gas prices, with the national average sitting at over $4.80 a gallon as of Friday morning, according to AAA. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and top officials within the administration have tried to fully skirt blame for the prices, dubbing the high costs “Putin’s Price Hike.” Although Russia’s invasion of Ukraine back in February – and Biden’s subsequent decision to ban Russian oil imports – have played a role in skyrocketing prices, the cost of gas had been rising long before the war. Now, as the midterm elections loom and questions swirl around whether Biden is the best man for the job in 2024, the administration is continuing to argue that the price Americans are paying is necessary. Jon Stewart: This Is the Moment GOP Ditches Trump for DeSantis
On the same day that Joe Rogan endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president in 2024, Jon Stewart convened a “special emergency session” of the podcast that seems to have replaced his Apple TV+ show to explain why he believes this week’s bombshell Jan. 6 Committee hearing will be the last straw for Donald Trump in the Republican Party. “I think the larger development from yesterday,” Stewart said, referring to Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony, “is that more Republicans have decided Ron DeSantis is a better option. This is just too much.” While there was “nothing surprising” about how we now know Trump behaved on the day of the insurrection, the host said the difference now is that Republicans have a clear alternative. “Now they know where they’re going,” he said. “And they can steer away from Trump feeling confident. He’s lost his utility. They never fucking liked him. But he’s starting to lose his utility.” “They’re starting to realize they’ve got a guy who they … [Read more...] about Jon Stewart: This Is the Moment GOP Ditches Trump for DeSantis
