Overturning Roe v. Wade and declaring New York’s fascist conceal carry law unconstitutional are not only progress for the cause of human and civil rights–they will also save countless innocent lives. It need not be pointed out how this week’s 5-4 Supreme Court decision concerning Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization finally ended the moral and legal atrocity of Roe v. Wade or how it will save lives. The slaughter of innocent, unborn babies will end in any number of states, come under heavy restrictions in others, and likely save millions of lives. Unfortunately, this mass butchering will likely continue in the demonic blue states. Out of defiance, it might even increase. Overall, though, the infanticide numbers will almost certainly decrease. And those numbers are almost too horrific to comprehend. Since Roe became the law of the land in 1973, 63 million innocent babies have been slaughtered. Sixty-three million lives were snuffed out, almost all for … [Read more...] about Nolte: Abortion, Gun Rulings Are Civil Rights Victories That Will Save Lives

Department Of Justice Denounces Supreme Court Ruling On Guns
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released a statement Thursday disagreeing with the Supreme Court’s ruling in a case involving a New York concealed carry law. “We respectfully disagree with the Court’s conclusion that the Second Amendment forbids New York’s reasonable requirement that individuals seeking to carry a concealed handgun must show that they need to do so for self-defense,” the statement read. Supreme Court abortion ruling touches off second day of raucous protests nationwide
WASHINGTON - There appeared to be no let-up Saturday as Americans angered by the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade hit the streets for a second day of mass protests. From Washington, D.C., where the conservatives on the court Friday swept aside a half-century of precedent to do away with the law, all the way to the West Coast, there were angry, raucous protests against a ruling that almost immediately made access to abortions all-but-impossible in half the country. Those protests were, at times, met with counter-protests by anti-abortion activists elated by the ruling and determined to stop abortions from happening everywhere in the country. Outside the Supreme Court building, a small-but-growing group of protesters chanting "Women's rights are human rights" confronted a preacher who had waded into the mix and appeared to be trying to drown them out. "Listen to me, our religious convictions inform everything we do," the Rev. Jonathan Tremaine Thomas said. … [Read more...] about Supreme Court abortion ruling touches off second day of raucous protests nationwide
US Abortion Ruling: Police at Arizona Capitol Fire Tear Gas, Disperse Protesters
Police fired tear gas to disperse anti-abortion demonstrators from outside the Arizona Capitol Friday night, forcing lawmakers to huddle briefly in a basement inside the building as they rushed to complete their 2022 session. Thousands of protesters had gathered earlier on the Capitol grounds in Phoenix, divided into groups both supporting and condemning the US Supreme Courts decision overturning Roe v. Wade. SWAT team members with the Department of Public Safety fired tear gas from second floor of the old Capitol building to disperse protesters in the mall between the current House and Senate buildings. KPHO-TV reported the officers opened fire when several anti-abortion protesters started banging on glass doors of the Senate building. Authorities said there were no injuries or arrests. The incident sent Senate lawmakers into the basement for about 20 minutes, said Democratic Sen. Martin Quezada. Stinging tear gas wafted through the building afterward, forcing the Senate to … [Read more...] about US Abortion Ruling: Police at Arizona Capitol Fire Tear Gas, Disperse Protesters
Abortion ruling will impact globally, health organizations warn as some activists emboldened
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will have lasting repercussions for women’s rights across the world, medical associations and rights providers warned, as abortion opponents appeared emboldened by the ruling. Criminalizing abortions would not prevent them, but make them more deadly, a spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday. “A staggering 45% of all abortions around the world are unsafe, making this a leading cause of maternal death,” a statement by the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency read. The World Health Organization also tweeted Friday that access to safe abortion care was “essential” and removing it would “put more women and girls at risk of illegal abortions and the consequent safety issues that would bring.” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted that he was “concerned and disappointed” by the ruling. He said it reduced both “women’s rights and access to health care.” The … [Read more...] about Abortion ruling will impact globally, health organizations warn as some activists emboldened
Guns in paradise: Ruling could undo strict Hawaii carry law
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 29 HONOLULU (AP) — Megan Kau takes occasional weeklong hunting trips to the Hawaiian island of Lanai, where she enjoys watching the sunrise and hearing the distant rustle of deer and mouflon sheep in the tropical wilderness, a rifle ready at her side. As a gun owner, she also goes to shooting ranges several times a year. Those outings are the only times the attorney and Oahu native sees others with guns in this tourist mecca where strict laws make it harder to purchase firearms and restrict carrying loaded guns in public. Thursday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning New York's concealed weapon law will likely change things in Hawaii, too, where it's now highly unusual to see people carrying loaded weapons in public. Fresh protests as new US abortion reality takes shape
AFP Washington, United States ● Sun, June 26, 2022 2022-06-26 13:10 0 e16ff64e7ecc29b417414912232fde4c 2 Americas US,abortion,protest,Washington,Supreme-Court,conservatism Free Abortion rights defenders fanned out across America Saturday for a second day of protest against the Supreme Court's thunderbolt ruling, as state after conservative state moved swiftly to ban the procedure. The deeply polarized country grappled with a new level of division: between states that will now or soon deny the right to abortion, enshrined since 1973, and those that still allow it. A few thousand people thronged the streets Saturday outside the fenced-off Supreme Court in Washington, in hot summer weather, carrying signs that read "War on women, who's next?" and "No uterus, No opinion." "What happened yesterday is indescribable and disgusting," said Mia Stagner, 19, a political science major in college. "Being forced to be a mother is not something any woman should … [Read more...] about Fresh protests as new US abortion reality takes shape
‘Your Body Belongs to Christ’: US Anti-abortionists See Divine Hand in Court Ruling
Diana Villanueva’s rapist took her to an abortion clinic when she was just 16 years old and told her to terminate her pregnancy. She wasn’t greeted by the crowds of protestors who often gather outside facilities in the United States to try to persuade women to change their minds. But now, this 53-year-old Catholic wishes she had been — because she has been haunted by the termination ever since. “I was afraid that someone would see me because my mom was very involved in the church and I was afraid that somebody from church was going to be there,” she told AFP. “But then at the same time, I wish somebody would have been there, because maybe that would have given me the courage to speak out and say: ‘I don’t want to do this’.” Villanueva now runs a retreat in her native El Paso, Texas, helping women who, like her, regret their abortion. Devised by psychologist Theresa Burke and present in dozens of countries, “Rachel’s Vineyard” draws on biblical scripture and is described as … [Read more...] about ‘Your Body Belongs to Christ’: US Anti-abortionists See Divine Hand in Court Ruling
Supreme Court strikes New York gun law, expanding gun rights
The Supreme Court said Thursday that Americans have a right to carry guns in public, a major expansion of gun rights. The justices’ 6-3 decision follows a series of recent mass shootings and is expected to ultimately allow more people to legally carry guns on the streets of the nation’s largest cities — including New York, Los Angeles and Boston — and elsewhere. About a quarter of the U.S. population lives in states expected to be affected by the ruling, the high court’s first major gun decision in more than a decade. The ruling comes as Congress is actively working on gun legislation following recent mass shootings in Texas, New York and California.
