KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied committing criminal breach of trust involving RM17,953,185.21 of Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB) funds on Tuesday (May 24) and instead claimed that he transferred the money to a legal firm because his former executive secretary was prone to making mistakes in handling money. This amount of the funds involved the sixth of 12 charges of criminal breach of trust the former deputy prime minister is facing. Ahmad Zahid, 69, told the High Court that he appointed Lewis & Co to handle the funds of the foundation owned by him because Major Mazlina Mazlan @ Ramly had been careless in managing his personal money and YAB funds. "My Lord, as I said earlier in my statement, Mazlina had committed mistakes on many occasions, including writing a figure different from the amount spelled out in cheques and not sending monthly credit card statements and other documents when asked. "The transfer of the foundation’s funds to the legal firm was not for … [Read more...] about Ahmad Zahid denies committing CBT, says YAB funds transferred to legal firm as officer found negligent

Herschel Walker denies Trump ever said election was “stolen”
GOP candidate Herschel Walker, currently running to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate , denied that former President Donald Trump has ever claimed the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Following Trump's defeat, he and his allies repeatedly claimed the election was stolen due to widespread voter fraud in key battleground states, despite any evidence to back up this theory. The issue has become a test of loyalty to the former president within the GOP, and the candidates he has endorsed have largely parroted these claims . But Walker, who received Trump's endorsement for his Senate campaign, said he has never heard Trump claim the election was stolen during an interview with Atlanta-based news station WAGA-TV this week. News anchor Russ Spencer confronted Walker about the claims during a testy exchange, noting the importance of a candidate's embrace of the claims to receive the former president's endorsement, asking Walker if he believes the election was stolen. No10 denies PM suggested Sue Gray drop report – but won’t publish notes of secret meeting
Downing Street has denied that Boris Johnson suggested Sue Gray could just drop plans to publish her Partygate report - but refused to publicise the minutes of their secretive meeting. The Prime Minister - who is the Whitehall investigator's boss - met her at the start of this month after No10 officials said talks "may be something that she might want to consider." No10 are refusing to release any minutes. But it's now emerged Boris Johnson asked if there was "much point" in publishing her final verdict on lockdown parties after a police probe, the Times and Sky News reported. The PM's official spokesman said he "wouldn't recognise the characterisation that the PM asked her to drop or scrap the report or not proceed with it" after being repeatedly grilled on what took place. The spokesman said: "This was a legitimate meeting about the process rather than the contents of the report. "The Prime Minister did not ask her to drop the report or not proceed with the report. Dr Christian Jessen blasts anti-vaccine supporters – but denies his viewpoint makes him a bully
Dr Christian Jessen has criticised those who decide not to have their children immunised - saying those who refuse the MMR jab 'must be pleased with themselves' that a measles epidemic is spreading. The Embarrassing Bodies star and esteemed healthcare professional retweeted a link to a story about an outbreak of the disease and commented, "I'm sure they're very pleased with themselves. I think this is criminal" and followed it up with a very angry emoji. The news story he'd shared was a report form the World Health Organisation warning that outbreaks of measles are spreading in regions where vaccinations have dropped. Family of slain star cyclist denies love triangle theory
The family of a slain cyclist released a statement over the weekend, dismissing theories that the killing might have been motivated by a love triangle. Anna Moriah Wilson, 25, was found bleeding and unresponsive by a friend outside of a home in East Austin, Texas, on May 11, according to KXAN News. Police responding to the home later pronounced her dead at the scene. Wilson, who was a professional cyclist, had been traveling to Texas from her home in Vermont for a race. "Investigators arrived at the scene and discovered a 25-year-old female with multiple gunshot wounds," a news release from the time stated, according to the Austin American-Statesman . "Officers and EMS performed life-saving measures. However, the victim died from her injuries." The main suspect in Wilson's killing is Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, who has been charged with first-degree murder, but remains on the run. Prior to her death, according to an arrest warrant in the case, Wilson went swimming with an … [Read more...] about Family of slain star cyclist denies love triangle theory
Ghislaine Maxwell LOSES bid to overturn sex trafficking conviction as judge denies motion
Ghislaine Maxwell has lost a bid to overturn her child sex trafficking conviction. US District Judge Alison Nathan upheld three of the five guilty counts that saw Maxwell, 60, jailed in December. Ms Nathan rejected guilty verdicts for two of the counts, which could lead to a reduction in Maxwell's sentence. She previously faced up to 65 years in jail for her role as madam for paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. Judge Nathan ruled on Friday that three counts of the guilty verdict were supported by testimony and evidence presented at Maxwell's trial in Manhattan federal court. Ms Nathan, however, rejected the guilty verdicts reached on two of the counts, reducing the maximum possible sentence faced by Maxwell by 10 years to 55 years behind bars. Ms Nathan said three of the charges effectively covered the same offense, so upheld only one of those three guilty verdicts. Coimbatore Corporation refuses to share affidavit, RTI activist cries foul
Special Correspondent COIMBATORE Coimbatore Corporation denying an RTI applicant a copy of an affidavit it had filed in the Madras High Court has come to light. In his RTI application, activist S.P. Thiyagarajan asked for the copy of the counter-affidavit that the Corporation had filed in a case concerning a reserved site at Meenakshi Nagar in North Zone. He had sought the copy from the Corporation law officer in December 2021. The Corporation refused to accept the registered letter containing the RTI application saying there was no law officer in the Council wing. After his application was not even received, the applicant preferred an appeal with the appellate officer, the deputy commissioner. In response to the appeal, the Deputy Commissioner in February this year denied the information saying sharing the Corporation’s counter-affidavit would impact the course of the case and cited a Central Information Commission order to justify the denial. Mr. Thiyagarajan responded with … [Read more...] about Coimbatore Corporation refuses to share affidavit, RTI activist cries foul
Ruling on Pakistani Woman’s Petition in Samjhauta Blast Case on Wednesday
Panchkula: A special court here, hearing the 2007 Samjhauta train bombing case, will give its ruling on the plea flied by a Pakistani woman for examining eyewitnesses from her country on Wednesday. The special NIA court posted the matter for hearing for March 20 after arguments on the application were concluded on Monday. "The court adjourned the matter for March 20 for order on the application filed last week," NIA counsel Rajan Malhotra said. In a last-minute application to the anti-terror court, Rahila Wakeel, the daughter of blast victim Muhammad Wakeel of Hafizabad district in Pakistan, sought examination of eyewitnesses from her country. She had contended that her co-nationals either did not receive proper summonses from the court or were denied visas by authorities to appear before it. However, the National Investigating Agency or NIA, which is probing the case, argued that summons were sent through proper channels on three occasions, but no responses were received. … [Read more...] about Ruling on Pakistani Woman’s Petition in Samjhauta Blast Case on Wednesday
Monster earwigs, the Hull KR elf, Kipper the cat and 10 other interesting things to catch my attention this week
BOBBIE Goulding was the first person to suggest Parramatta were after Gareth Hock. He was bang on even though the move never happened. This week he's saying Sam Tomkins has already signed for Saracens next season to team up with brother Joel. If Sam wants to make the 2015 rah World Cup that makes sense. Interesting to see if Bobbie does.. Quite intrigued by the new Sky 'casual look' graphics before each game. Ryan Bailey (no surprise) and Tommy Makinson (surprise) look the most menacing so far though both were overshadowed by Saints coach Nathan Brown's massive shirt collars (really scary). Great interview by Jamie Jones-Buchanan with Bailey in Rugby League World this month incidentally, touching on his growing up without a father and his time in the nick. Noel Gallagher, Denis Healey, Thunderbirds beware...there's a new set of monster eyebrows on the block. Catalans coach Laurent Frayssinous appears to have two earwigs (earwigans if he were from Lancashire presumably) … [Read more...] about Monster earwigs, the Hull KR elf, Kipper the cat and 10 other interesting things to catch my attention this week
If the Catholic Church can’t stay out of politics, it should start paying taxes
This weekend, the Catholic Church made the news yet again over its views on abortion – this time concerning US House speaker Nancy Pelosi ’s ability to receive the sacrament of communion due to her pro-choice stance. While it’s no secret that the Catholic Church, and other churches, have been long-term vocal opponents of abortion , this move to block a sacrament from a politician is absolutely over the top. Religious organisations that involve themselves in politics in this way should lose their tax exempt status. Religious organisations are already not required to comply with rules that secular spaces must follow. For example, the Catholic Church has been blessed by the government with tax exemptions , as much as $3.5bn in government Covid-19 aid and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) bypassing . The requirements for these benefits are given to them under the condition of their religious organisation status. This status has responsibilities attached to … [Read more...] about If the Catholic Church can’t stay out of politics, it should start paying taxes
