Democrats have taken back the House. Does that mean they'll be trying to impeach President Trump? With Democrats winning a House majority in the midterms, they now control the body with the power to impeach the president — a possibility that came up again and again in his first two years in office. The idea seemed to haunt Mr. Trump during the campaign, as he warned rally crowds that a Republican defeat could lead to an attempted impeachment. But for the immediate future, at least, Democrats don't seem eager to make it happen. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi — who could soon become speaker -- tried to tamp down impeachment talk as the midterms approached. "For those who want impeachment, that's not what our caucus is about," Pelosi told PBS' NewsHour this week. She said any push for impeachment would depend on the results of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the president — and she would want Republicans to join the effort. If the … [Read more...] about Will Democrats impeach Trump now that they control the House?

Former Vice President Joe Biden said if Democrats retake the House of Representatives, "they don't" impeach President Trump. The comments came during an interview with "CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O'Donnell that aired on Thursday morning. He called for Democrats to wait until the conclusion of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. "I hope they don't. I don't think there's a basis for doing that right now," Biden said. "I think we should focus on all the terrible things that are happening now in terms of interest of the middle class people and working class people," Biden said. He criticized the Trump administration for "decimating" unions and "eviscerating" the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Biden also stated president Trump "seems to have a love affair with autocrats." "There are so many things to attend to immediately. Let's see where the investigation takes us," Biden said. The New York Times reported Tuesday evening: “A One-Two Punch Puts Trump Back on His Heels.” The conviction Tuesday afternoon of President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort (on charges unrelated to the campaign), plus the simultaneous guilty plea by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to charges that included campaign finance violations, sent the media and the political world into a frenzy. But ironically, Trump and the Republicans could end up being the winners. Cohen told the court he broke campaign finance laws at Trump’s request. Trump’s lawyers deny it. Regardless, Trump is unlikely to be in any legal jeopardy. As even the Washington Post acknowledged on Tuesday evening, “The assertion by President Trump’s former lawyer that he broke campaign finance laws at the direction of then-candidate Trump could spark calls for impeachment hearings — but probably will not have any legal consequences for the president … [Read more...] about Republicans Find Midterm Message: Vote GOP, or Democrats Impeach Trump

Will House Speaker Paul Ryan’s retirement increase the odds of President Trump’s impeachment? Maybe, but Democratic leaders don’t want to talk about it. President Obama’s former Attorney General Eric Holder and former top Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod, among others, want their liberal allies to shut up about impeaching President Trump. They fear that threats to drive the president from office will boost voter turnout – not among Democrats, as some on the left hope, but rather among Republicans. Axelrod tweeted recently: “Dems should NOT commit to impeachment unless & until there’s a demonstrable case for one…. If we “normalize” impeachment as a political tool, it will be another hammer blow to our democracy.” Holder tweeted in response: … [Read more...] about Democrats are eager to impeach Trump. POLITICS 04/09/2018 03:49 pm ET But the Democrat wants to wait for the conclusion of the Russia probe first. By Igor Bobic Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas), who is mounting a longshot bid against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in this fall’s midterm election, says he’s already seen enough evidence to support the impeachment of President Donald Trump. “I want to be straight with you,” O’Rourke told a Texas radio host Monday, when asked whether he saw enough evidence to impeach Trump. “I’ve seen an attempt, no matter how ham-handed, to collude with a foreign government in our national election. I’ve seen an effort to obstruct justice in the investigation of what happened in the 2016 election.” But the Democratic congressman, who has shattered state fundraising records in his campaign to oust the conservative incumbent, quickly added that the opening of impeachment proceedings against the president ought to … [Read more...] about Texas Senate Candidate Beto O’Rourke Says He’s Seen Enough Evidence To Impeach Trump
