MADISON, Wis. — Democratic groups supporting Tony Evers have launched a pair of new television ads attacking Republican Gov. Scott Walker over health care and his use of state airplanes. A Stronger Wisconsin, a group aligned with the Democratic Governors Association, is running one ad out Monday knocking Walker on health care. It's part of a seven-figure ad buy. The spot says Walker is putting his political ambitions ahead of people with pre-existing health conditions because he supports repealing the Affordable Care Act. That law requires insurance companies cover people with pre-existing conditions. Walker says he wants to enact a state-level protection. The other ad from the liberal group the Greater Wisconsin Committee hits Walker for using the state airplane at a cost to taxpayers of more than $900,000 since 2015. The ads calls for voting to "ground Air Walker." … [Read more...] about Democrats attack Walker over airplane use, health care

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Actor Alec Baldwin followed up his latest parody portrayal of President Donald Trump with a serious call Sunday night for voters to use the Nov. 6 midterm elections to peacefully “overthrow” the government. After reprising his role as Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” Baldwin flew to New Hampshire, where he was the keynote speaker at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s annual fall fundraising dinner. “The way we implement change in America is through elections. We change governments here at home in an orderly and formal way,” he said. “In that orderly and formal way and lawful way, we need to overthrow the government of the United States under Donald Trump.” The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday night. Baldwin said on issue after issue, Republicans are destroyers, not builders. “There is a small cadre of people currently in power who are hell-bent on continuing … [Read more...] about At N.H. In a windowless conference room, Republican Senate candidate Martha McSally was asking executives at a small crane manufacturing company how the GOP tax cut has helped their business when one woman said: "I want to ask you a question about healthcare." Marylea Evans recounted how, decades ago, her husband had been unable to get health insurance after developing cancer, forcing the couple to sell some of their Texas ranch to pay for his treatment. Now she was worried about Democratic ads saying McSally, currently a congresswoman, supported legislation removing the requirement that insurers cover people with pre-existing medical conditions. "It's a lie," McSally said quickly, accustomed to having to interrupt a discussion of the tax cut to parry attacks on healthcare. But she had voted for a wide-ranging bill that would have, among other things, undermined protections for people with pre-existing conditions and drastically changed and shrunk Medicaid. The exchange demonstrated how … [Read more...] about Democrat Candidates Focus on Healthcare as Midterms near
In the primary races for Colorado treasurer, Democratic state Rep. Dave Young looked positioned to best first-time candidate Bernard Douthit, a progressive candidate who tied himself to U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders. “I’m pleased to have what appears to be the overwhelming support of Democrats in the state, and I’m looking forward to a good race for the general election for treasurer,” Young said Tuesday night as the results appeared to show him the victor. The Greeley resident said he was really happy with the way his team conducted themselves and the race they ran. “I admire anybody that puts themselves out as a candidate,” said Young, who has won the backing of the Colorado Education Association and served on the state legislature’s powerful Joint Budget Committee. “I want to commend him on running a tough race, and I’m appreciative of the fact that he was willing to put himself on the line.” As of 9:30 p.m., Young was leading … [Read more...] about Dave Young positioned to win Democratic primary for Colorado treasurer; Justin Everett, Brian Watson locked in close battle
