The Delhi police on Saturday registered a case over a protest staged by Congress party members on Friday. The Congress party had called for a nationwide protest against inflation, unemployment and GST hike on essential items. The Delhi police had denied permission to the party to stage a protest in the Capital as prohibitory orders were in place in the New Delhi district. More than 300 protesters, including 65 MPs were detained on Friday. Dispose of COVID-19 violation cases immediately: Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court took the Delhi police to task for dragging a case of violation of COVID-19 guidelines for the past seven months, “when it ought not to have taken even seven days for disposal”, saying that the police’s actions “roused suspicions” and were a “colossal waste of time and human resources”. The High Court was hearing a petition by sporting goods company Decathlon, which sought quashing of an FIR lodged on December 30 last year after a police patrol party found one of its showrooms at Preet Vihar open, with 8-10 people standing near the reception, beyond the stipulated time of 8 p.m. Justice Asha Menon refused to quash the FIR noting that there was disobedience of the COVID-19 guidelines, but also questioned the Delhi police for dragging the case till now when the violation was in the nature of “petty offences”. Police to reward those who detect dummy IEDs
The Delhi police have decided to reward people who have detected dummy improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the Special Cell in different districts of the Capital, officers said on Saturday. In June, the police had said it will plant dummy IEDs in areas of high footfall to check the alertness of the local police. DCP (PRO) Suman Nalwa said the police are closely working with security guards, parking attendants and watchmen among others, who are involved in security and vigilance, to raise awareness about the dummy IEDs. It is being done to encourage people to be more vigilant and become ears and eyes of the Delhi police, especially during Independence Day and Republic Day. “This is an ongoing exercise which we are doing with the citizens of Delhi. There has been instances when the dummy is not detected. Two held for assaulting head constable inside police station
One was arrested while another was apprehended on Saturday for assaulting a head constable inside Anand Vihar police station in east Delhi. The police received a PCR call at 11.27 p.m. on July 30 about a physical assault over a gold chain in Karkardooma village. DCP (Shahdara) R. Sathiyasundaram said the issue was between two parties, Ajay and Anchal Bakshi. Ajay was found in an intoxicated condition and was apprehended from the spot by the police. A senior officer said that Ajay and Anchal Bakshi were neighbors and had called the police to resolve the issue. They were then taken to the police station to record their statement. While Ms. Bakshi wasn’t present, some of her family members and relatives were there with the investigating officer. Two arrested for raping spa employee in Delhi; owners arrested
Two men, including a spa centre manager, were arrested for raping a 22-year-old woman in north-west Delhi’s Pitampura area, the police said on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Rahul, 21, the spa manager and the client, Satish Kumar, 48. The owners of the spa centre, Brij Gopal, 49 and Sandeep, 48, have also been arrested, the police said. The police received an information at the Maurya Enclave police station on Thursday at 10 p.m. about the sexual assault at a spa centre. DCP (North-West) Usha Rangnani said the victim was sent for medical examination. The victim said she had joined the spa centre on July 30. On Thursday at 6 p.m., Satish arrived along with Rahul and demanded sexual favours, the DCP added. The manager offered her sedative-laced drinks after which she felt dizzy. Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute: High-level Delegations Hold Talks, Agree to Four-point Peace Plan
A high-level delegation from Assam and Mizoram on Tuesday agreed to promote and maintain peace along the borders during talks held at the Aizawl Club. In a joint statement signed by officials from the two North-eastern neighbours, both sides agreed to peacefully resolve the decades-old boundary dispute. The delegation from Assam was led by Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora. He was accompanied by Assam Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Development Ashok Singhal. The Mizoram delegation was headed by Home Minister Lalchamliana. The talks, held a year since the deadly clash between the police forces of Assam and Mizoram in July, 2021 claimed the lives of six people.
