It was the result of long struggle by the people of India. The freedom struggle was not just a political mobilization; rather, it was a cultural movement which shaped the national identity. The abstract notion of independence was given concrete contours through the legislative medium of “Indian Independence Act,1947”. Enacted by the British Parliament, the Indian Independence Act dealt with the modalities of transfer of power and transitory provisions. The end of colonial domain and the division of British India into two domains- India and Pakistan- were implemented through this Act. The preamble of the Act read :- “An Act to make provision for the setting up in India of two independent Dominions, to … [Read more...] about Independence Day Special : Is Independent India A Creation Of British Parliament?
By Sandi Genovese Tribune News Service Published 11:13 p.m. UTC Jun 7, 2018 When I was growing up, if you walked into my parents’ home on a weekend, there was a really good chance the TV would be tuned to a golf tournament. Of course they also taped the tournaments so when they returned from playing a round of golf, they could watch more golf on television. So it’s no surprise I would choose golf as the theme for my dad’s Father’s Day card. You might even say it was par for the course. If you want to make a card for your dad this Father’s Day, you will be surprised at how easy this one is to create. Fold a long strip of paper in half with any number of accordion pleats on either side of middle fold. Create golf flags from narrow strips of white card stock and small colored triangles. Number the flags with white stickers and fasten them into the accordion pleats. Decorate the front and inside cover with a golf ball and a few tees, all cut from paper … [Read more...] about Hobbies: This card ‘fore’ dad will make his day special
INDIANAPOLIS — State Sen. Eddie Melton, D-Gary, believes it is "wrong" for Statehouse Republicans to revive a proposal in the upcoming special session that further sidelines the elected trustees of the Gary Community School Corp.House Bill 1315 would make the Gary school board into merely an advisory board for the district's state-appointed emergency manager, limit the board to four public meetings a year and free the emergency manager from a requirement that she regularly consult the board about the district's budget and other major decisions.Melton celebrated, along with other state lawmakers representing Gary, when that legislation died at midnight March 14 after the General Assembly failed to vote on it before its annual regular session expired. But GOP leaders last week said the proposal again will be eligible for final passage, without changes, at the May 14 one-day special session.Melton said it's "misguided" and "disenfranchises" Gary voters for the Republican House and … [Read more...] about Sen. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said Friday she'll call a special legislative session before the end of June to broaden certain tax breaks.Brown made the announcement when she also said she would sign a controversial measure passed by her fellow Democrats in the Legislature to keep Oregon from losing more than $200 million as a result of President Donald Trump's federal tax overhaul. Unlike most other states Oregon's coffers were due to take a hit because of the overhaul, due to a quirk in the way the state figures federal deductions for state tax purposes."We anticipate a one-day special session," said Brown, who added that she had already been in conversation with legislative leaders about the move. A spokesman for Brown added that keeping the session to a single day would require a supermajority vote in the Legislature to suspend normal operating rules. The goal of the special session will be to expand the list of small businesses eligible for preferential … [Read more...] about Oregon governor signs tax bill, calls special session
