By Stanley White OSAKA/TOKYO (Reuters) - Osaka, long Japan's "second city," is winning the race against Tokyo to draw foreign tourists, but after a boom, its retailers and property developers are adapting to shifting tourism spending patterns. Inbound tourism to Osaka surged five-fold between 2012 and 2017, faster than visits to Tokyo, as the city lured low-cost carriers and promoted itself as a base to visit the 25 World Heritage sites in nearby Kyoto and Nara. Initially, developers and retailers scrambled to build new hotels, expand floor space, and install cashless payment systems like AliPay and WeChat to keep up with the sudden influx of big-spending tourists, mostly from China. In February, 5,900 new companies were set up with total registered capital of 96.3 trillion VND (4.13 billion USD), the GSO said, attributing the month-on-month decrease of 41.5 percent in number of firms partly to the week-long Lunar New Year holiday in February. However, the registered capital of each firm rose 8.8 percent on average to 16.3 billion VND. Almost 15,980 new businesses were founded in the first two months with combined capital of 247.4 trillion VND. The respective figures dropped 14.6 percent and rose 25.4 percent from a year earlier. Japanese personnel provider enters Vietnamese market Representative from Sunwell Solutions Vietnam Yoshioka Reito (R) A representative from Japan’s Sunwell Solutions JSC said on January 23 that its Vietnamese office officially became operational earlier this month. Sunwell Solutions, with eight years experience in providing human resources solutions, aims to increase opportunities for outstanding Vietnamese engineers working at Japanese firms and develop relations between Japanese employers and Vietnamese employees. Yoshioka Reito, a representative of Sunwell in Vietnam, stressed that although it has been established for nine years with highly technical staff, Sunwell is looking to expand its business to great customers, focusing on key fields such as information technology, automobile technology, and refinery projects.
