The Bangalore Turf Club on Sunday felicitated Cyrus S. Poonawalla on being awarded the Padma Bhushan for his distinguished service in trade and industry. In a simple ceremony, Turf Authorities of India and BTC chairman Uday Eswaran and the BTC committee paid tribute to the man who has been called the ‘Vaccine King of India’ with a heart of gold. Dr. Poonawalla’s close association with horse racing must have kindled the spark in him to take chances and grab the initiative at the right moment. He took that chance in 1966 to set up the Serum Institute of India on a budget of just $12,000. Today it’s a $12 billion company. Dr. Poonawalla, while acknowledging the honour, said his vision was to make vaccines that would be affordable and available to people all over the world. That vision has not faltered and continues to this day. … [Read more...] about Bangalore Turf Club felicitates Cyrus Poonawalla

Walz and Jensen set in Minn. governor race; Schultz advances
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and Republican challenger Scott Jensen scored easy victories Tuesday in their primaries to set the stage for their fall matchup in Minnesota’s top race this fall, while business lawyer Jim Schultz won the GOP primary to take on Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison. Walz is seeking his second term under the same “One Minnesota” slogan he used four years ago, but in an ever more polarized environment where Jensen and the GOP are seeking to turn his management of the COVID-19 pandemic against him. Both men easily overcame little-known or perennial candidates to formalize a race that’s already been underway for months. In the attorney general's race, Schultz beat Doug Wardlow, who narrowly lost to Ellison in 2018. Ellison easily beat perennial candidate Bill Dahn in Tuesday's Democratic primary. Flaunting The Midriff Is Back In Play- Do Not Be Afraid To Show Off Your Skin, Own Every Bit Of It
Don’t know if you have noticed or not but flaunting the midriff is back in fashion and this time around it is way more inclusive. Let’s think of the early 2000s the bare midriff look was everything, all the big stars in Hollywood were sporting it- starting from Jeniffer Aniston to Kiera Knightly. Pop icons like Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus almost turned it into a cult. Closer home, Kareena Kapoor was all about the midriff. Right from ‘You are my Soniya’ to ‘Chaliya Chaliya’, Bebo knew nobody could flaunt it like her and so she used it to the T, but hey, we are not complaining! It is not surprising though how all these women were of a certain body type and we were constantly being fed with the fact that nobody except for those who could flaunt their abs was allowed to show off their mid-section in public. And while a lot of fashion historians trace back the trend to the early 40s and 50s in the USA when women were actively taking part in sports, celebrity stylist and … [Read more...] about Flaunting The Midriff Is Back In Play- Do Not Be Afraid To Show Off Your Skin, Own Every Bit Of It

One year after Afghan war, Biden struggles to find footing
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 WASHINGTON (AP) — The 12 months since the chaotic end to the U.S. war in Afghanistan haven't been easy for Joe Biden. The new president was flying high early in the summer of 2021, the American electorate largely approving of Biden's performance and giving him high marks for his handling of the economy and the coronavirus pandemic. But come August, the messy U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan seemed to mark the start of things going sideways for him. It was a disquieting bookend to the 20-year American war: the U.S.-backed Afghan government collapsed, a grisly bombing killed 13 U.S. troops and 170 others, and thousands of desperate Afghans descended on Kabul’s airport in search of a way out before the final U.S. cargo planes departed over the Hindu Kush. The disastrous drawdown was, at the time, the biggest crisis that the relatively new administration had faced. It left … [Read more...] about One year after Afghan war, Biden struggles to find footing
