English actress Millie Bobby Brown reportedly deactivated her Twitter account Wednesday in response to being cyberbullied. Brown, 14, was the target of multiple homophobic memes. It's uncertain how the memes first surfaced, but several Twitter users posted tweets that portrayed her in a negative light. Photos taken from Brown's Snapchat were modified by users alleging she made a series of offensive anti-gay comments. Others simply shared their alleged experience with homophobia or racism from Brown. There were some users who suggested that this was meant to be a joke . Many of the tweets were linked to the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, which was first created by Twitter user @KelsFiona in November 2017. She took to Twitter after she allegedly had a bad encounter with the Stranger Things actress. "I saw Millie Bobby Brown in the airport and asked for a pic and she said 'only if you remove the hijab,'" the now-suspended user wrote at the time . "I said it's my faith … [Read more...] about Millie Bobby Brown Deletes Twitter Over Cyberbullying

Teen brings grenade into class, sparks mass evacuation of school
A school in the city of Tomsk, in Siberia, Russia, was evacuated on Thursday afternoon after a teenager brought a grenade into school for a "life safety" class. More than 1,000 students and staff were evacuated from the school after the 14-year-old student brought in a grenade that he said he had purchased on the internet at the start of the year as a "souvenir," Russian daily newspaper Izvestia reported. Law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene said the grenade was a dummy. The teenager explained that the grenade he had purchased arrived "in deconstructed form" and so he decided to bring it to class in the hopes that his teacher "would help put it together." It teaches students the basics of civil defense, healthy living, natural or technological disaster relief, basic survival skills, and how to fight cyberbullying. How a cheerleader’s angry social media post landed before the Supreme Court
B.L. was angry. It was the end of her freshman year in high school and she’d just been informed she had not made the varsity cheerleading squad for the second year in a row. She’d be junior varsity again as a sophomore. She and a friend were out shopping. B.L. — the way she is referred to in court papers because she is a minor — grabbed her phone and, using Snapchat, a social media platform on which posts are ephemeral and self-deleting after 24 hours, she, uh, expressed herself the way high school students will. “F— school. F—softball. F— cheer. F— everything,” she wrote, spelling out the offending words. In an accompanying photo, she and her friend stuck out their tongues and raised their middle fingers. Advertisement The post wouldn’t have caused much disruption or outcry — that’s the way high school kids talk, right? — except that one classmate took a screenshot of it and showed it to her mother, who was a coach on the cheerleading team. Next thing B.L. knew, she … [Read more...] about How a cheerleader’s angry social media post landed before the Supreme Court

Shoot on this ‘Site’: From March 1, Complain Against FB, Twitter on Govt Portal; Panel Details Out
The government recently released the details related to the Grievance Appellate Committees (GAC) that will look into complaints against online platforms, including social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter. The portal to file the complaints is expected to be activated on March 1. Last year, Rajeev Chandrasekhar , Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology, had said the GACs were being formed as there were recurring complaints from those who use online platforms that they didn’t know who to reach to address a problem.
