Ruby Mellen, The Washington Post Published 3:22 am PST, Tuesday, November 13, 2018 Joaquín Guzmán, the famed Mexican drug lord known as "El Chapo," has spent the past 22 months in a small, windowless cell in Lower Manhattan awaiting trial. So why is Guzmán standing trial in New York rather than in Mexico? Mexico has tried to bring Guzmán to justice but he escaped twice from maximum-security prisons in his native country. During his 2001 imprisonment, he enlisted the help of the prison guards to sneak him to safety - hiding in a laundry cart, as the legend goes. He famously escaped again in 2015, … [Read more...] about Why is Mexico’s most notorious criminal being tried in Brooklyn?

John Hickenlooper issued pardons to 23 people with criminal records on Friday, bringing his total while in office to 89, according to reports. The Democrat's pardon letters were granted to people who finished their sentences and became "contributing members of their communities," the governor's office announced, according to the Denver Post.
