India Records 20,551 Covid-19 Cases, 70 Fatalities in Last 24 Hours

With 20,551 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,41,07,588, while the active cases declined to 1,35,364, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The death toll climbed to 5,26,600 with 70 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 1,114 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. With 19,893 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,40,87,037, while the active cases dipped to 1,36,478, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. The death toll climbed to 5,26,530 with 53 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 579 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. Active COVID-19 cases in country dip to 1,39,792

With 13,734 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases has risen to 4,40,50,009, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll has climbed to 5,26,430 with 27 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 a.m. stated. The active cases have declined to 1,39,792. They comprise 0.32% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.49%, the ministry said. A decrease of 4,197 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. T.N. logs 1,057 fresh COVID-19 cases

Active COVID-19 cases in the State fell below 10,000 on Sunday, with 9,889 persons being treated for the infection, according to the daily bulletin of the Public Health department. The State reported 1,057 fresh cases, and 35,52,698 persons have been infected so far. Chennai and Coimbatore continued to register cases in three digits. In Chennai 234 persons tested positive on Sunday and in Coimbatore 122. Chengalpattu reported 90 fresh cases. As many as 11 districts registered fewer than 10 infections, with Ramanathapuram and Tirupathur recording just one infection each. Another 1,429 persons were declared to have recovered, raising the overall tally of recoveries to 35,04,776. According to the bulletin, no one under treatment had succumbed to the infection. Tamil Nadu records 1,288 fresh COVID-19 cases

A total of 1,288 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the State on Wednesday. A 61-year-old man undergoing treatment died at Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital. A total of 35,48,195 persons have tested positive for the infection in the State so far, according to the daily bulletin of the Public Health Department. The deceased, a native of Krishnagiri, had tested positive through RT-PCR on July 29. He was diagnosed with systemic hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and also had peripheral artery disease. He had undergone open balloon angioplasty. He was admitted on August 1 to the hospital with complaints of fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing. A CT scan of the chest revealed congestion. He died on Wednesday afternoon and the hospital recorded it as due to COVID-19 pneumonia. He had suffered sepsis, septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome, according to the hospital. Karnataka reports 1,992 new COVID-19 cases, three deaths

Karnataka on Thursday recorded 1,992 new COVID-19 infections taking the total number of cases to 40,14,514. With this the day’s Test Positivity Rate (TPR) stood at 6.46% and the weekly TPR touched 6.33%. Of the new cases, 1,342 have been reported from Bengaluru Urban alone. With three deaths, the State’s toll touched 40,111. Besides, 42 deaths of patients due to non-COVID-19 reasons have also been recorded. As many as 2,107 persons were discharged on Thursday taking the total recoveries to 39,63,294. Active cases stood at 11,067 on Thursday. As many as 30,834 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, including 22,236 RT-PCR tests. With 19,406 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,41,26,994, while active cases declined to 1,34,793, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday. The death toll has climbed to 5,26,649 with 49 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.31 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 571 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.96 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 4.63 per cent, it said. Ramp up testing, promote Covid-appropriate behaviour and increase the pace of vaccination, the Centre has told Delhi and six states amid a spike in coronavirus cases, especially ahead of the festive season. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, in a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, said upcoming festivals and mass congregations in different parts of the country may potentially facilitate transmission of infectious diseases, including Covid-19. “It is critical to ensure adequate testing is undertaken in all the districts of the state while maintaining the recommended share of RT-PCR and antigen tests. The state must also closely monitor districts reporting higher cases, positivity rates and clusters to prevent further spread of infection and effective case management,” he stressed in the letter dated August 5. Tamil Nadu reports 1,141 fresh COVID-19 cases

Tamil Nadu reported 1,141 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, which took the total number of cases recorded till date to 35,50,547. As many as 247 persons tested positive in Chennai. The city has reported 7,84,060 cases till date. While there were 130 cases in Coimbatore, Chengalpattu’s daily tally dropped below 100 with 98 fresh cases. There were 58 cases in Erode and 55 in Salem. A total of 1,530 persons were discharged in the State, taking the total number of recoveries to 35,01,916. At present, 10,598 persons were under treatment in the State, of which, Chennai accounted for 3,652 cases followed by Coimbatore (984) and Chengalpattu (932). COVID-19: Active cases breach 10,000 mark after over five months in Karnataka

With 1,886 new infections reported in the State on Saturday, active COVID-19 cases again breached the 10,000 mark after a gap of over five months. The number of active cases in the third wave in Karnataka fell below the 50,000 mark on February 11 and further below the 10,000 mark on February 23 after hitting a peak of 3,62,487 cases on January 24. From March 20, active cases fell below 2,000 and were hovering around 1,800 till April 4 when the number further plummeted to 1,500. Subsequently, active cases started rising but remained within 2,000 till May 30. With new cases also seeing a jump from within 200 till May end to around 2,000 now, active cases are increasing by the day. As of Saturday, the total number of cases rose to 40,05,671. The day’s Test Positivity Rate (TPR) stood at 5.82% and the weekly TPR touched 5.97%. Of the 1,886 new cases, 1,342 have been reported from Bengaluru Urban alone.
