Ravens roundtable: Breaking down the toughest tests, best games and more in the 2022 schedule
The Ravens haven’t played a game since early January, haven’t won a game since late November and haven’t beaten a 2021 playoff team since mid-September. But with the release of the NFL’s 2022 schedule Thursday — and the expected return of a litany of injured starters — hope springs eternal in Baltimore. The Ravens, looking to return to the postseason after an 8-9 season, will open their slate with a four-game stretch against AFC East opponents and finish it with an AFC North-heavy itinerary. In between, they’ll face Super Bowl contenders and perennial also-rans. They’ll play games on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and maybe even Saturday. They’ll take on a division where Ben Roethlisberger and Baker Mayfield are no longer Lamar Jackson’s toughest competition at quarterback. Four months from the Ravens’ season opener, 2022 predictions are almost entirely speculative. But someone’s got to make them. Here’s how Baltimore Sun reporters Childs Walker and Jonas Shaffer and editor C.J. Doon … [Read more...] about Ravens roundtable: Breaking down the toughest tests, best games and more in the 2022 schedule

The city council of Haven, Kansas , voted 3-2 on Monday to reverse a unanimous decision they made May 2 to remove "In God We Trust" decals from the city's police cars following an uproar from some in the community. The city attorney said the Haven City Council's previous decision emerged from a desire to maintain a separation between church and state , according to local KWCH. The follow-up vote on Monday was not on the city council's original agenda, which had to move their weekly forum to a nearby community center because of how many attended. Seven people spoke at the typically uneventful meeting, where all but one supported the decals. The original motion was introduced by council member Sandra Williams, who expressed concern to Haven Police Chief Stephen … [Read more...] about Kansas town reverses decision removing ‘In God We Trust’ from police cars after uproar

Orioles’ Matt Harvey suspended 60 games for drug distribution following testimony in Tyler Skaggs-Eric Kay trial
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Orioles pitcher Matt Harvey has been suspended 60 games without pay for violating the league’s joint drug prevention and treatment program. The suspension, retroactive to April 29, is for “participating in the distribution of a prohibited drug of abuse,” which came to light during Harvey’s testimony in the February trial of former Los Angeles Angels employee Eric Kay for the death of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Kay was found guilty of two felony counts and faces a minimum of 20 years in prison for distributing drugs to Skaggs, which led to the Angels pitcher’s overdose death in 2019. Sentencing is scheduled for June 28, according to ESPN. Harvey, 33, was among the players who testified they received oxycodone pills from Kay while with the Angels, though Harvey also acknowledged that he had given oxycodone to Skaggs and used cocaine during his career. At the trial, Harvey, who spent last season with Baltimore, said he believed … [Read more...] about Orioles’ Matt Harvey suspended 60 games for drug distribution following testimony in Tyler Skaggs-Eric Kay trial

World Athletics Chief Sebastian Coe Says Tokyo Olympics Organisers Delivered on Covid-19 Protocols
World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe on Wednesday gave Tokyo Olympic organisers high marks for a marathon test event they staged in Sapporo, saying they were able to deliver both on the operation of the race and on their COVID-19 countermeasures. The Sapporo Challenge Half Marathon 2021 was held on Wednesday as a dress rehearsal for the marquee Olympic event with less than three months before the Summer Games begin. Six international athletes participated in the event in the northern city and had to go through stringent testing protocols before and after entering Japan. “The organising committee here not only demonstrated the ability to stage an event on the field of play, it also demonstrated the ability to deliver across other complexities including, of course, the COVID-19 protocols,” Coe told a news conference. All participants, including staff and media, had to log their temperature and answer a health questionnaire daily in the week leading up to the event, either through … [Read more...] about World Athletics Chief Sebastian Coe Says Tokyo Olympics Organisers Delivered on Covid-19 Protocols
A View From The Top: Duncan Wales, chief executive of Exotix Capital
Duncan Wales would simply vanish into the night. No one in the City law firm where he worked knew where he was, or what he was up to. Nor could he always explain to them what he was doing: “I was living in a weird twilight world.” What his colleagues didn’t – or couldn’t – know was that Duncan was off fighting on secret missions around the world, from Afghanistan to the Balkans, disappearing sometimes for months on end. “I think I must be one of the few men who knows what it must feel like to be a woman coming back to work after having a baby. You disappear for weeks, and then one day suddenly turn up back at the office.” He chuckles: “You couldn’t really talk about your experience. Women must feel that too. And often people just didn’t care what you were up to.” It was after his time at the University of Cambridge, and the death of his father, that Duncan volunteered for this double life, training to be a lawyer at Clifford Chance and a reservist squadron commander in … [Read more...] about A View From The Top: Duncan Wales, chief executive of Exotix Capital

Dolphins signing former Pro Bowl pass rusher Melvin Ingram
The Miami Dolphins aren’t done adding talent to their roster this offseason, and they just landed a three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher. Melvin Ingram is signing with the Dolphins, according to a league source on Sunday. Ingram, who can play both defensive end and outside linebacker and visited Miami in April, has made his mark in the NFL over nine seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers but found a resurgence late last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. At 33-years-old, Ingram has 55 career sacks between regular season and postseason play since entering the league as a first-round pick in the 2012 draft. After consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns from 2017 to 2019, Ingram suffered multiple knee injuries in 2020 that cut his final year with the Chargers short and caused him to miss more than half the season. He signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of training camp in 2021, and the Steelers then traded him at the deadline to the Chiefs. In the second … [Read more...] about Dolphins signing former Pro Bowl pass rusher Melvin Ingram
