New Zealand closed its borders in early 2020 as it sought at first to eliminate COVID-19 entirely and then later to control its spread. Adam Thompson, 28, went through an emotional rollercoaster when the death of his dad Mark, at the age of just 57, was followed by the birth of his own son Marley this year. Mark encouraged him to stick with the game that would become his life's passion, taking him to coaching sessions from the age of seven. The family of a mum who died on board a flight to Britain had been "so excited" about returning to the UK after 15 years in Hong Kong , neighbours revealed. Midwife and "one of a kind" mum Helen Rhodes, 46, was flying with her husband, 49, and two kids as part of a "new adventure" returning home after spending 15 years living in Hong Kong.
