New Zealand welcomes back first cruise ship since COVID-19 outbreak
New Zealand on Friday, August 12, 2022 welcomed the first cruise ship to return since the coronavirus pandemic began, signaling a long-sought return to normalcy for the nation's tourism industry. New Zealand closed its borders in early 2020 as it sought at first to eliminate COVID-19 entirely and then later to control its spread. Although the country reopened its borders to most tourists arriving by plane in May, it wasn't until two weeks ago that it lifted all remaining restrictions, including those on maritime arrivals. Many in the cruise industry question why it took so long. The end of restrictions allowed Carnival Australia's Pacific Explorer cruise ship to dock in Auckland with about 2,000 passengers and crew Friday morning as part of a 12-day return trip to Fiji that left from Sydney. “Amazing, isn't it?” Tourism Minister Stuart Nash said in an interview. “Its another step in the reopening of our borders and a step closer to resuming business as usual.” Tourism major … [Read more...] about New Zealand welcomes back first cruise ship since COVID-19 outbreak
The ‘Jewel’ of Alaska Returns Home, Explains How Yodeling Saved Her Life
(Courtesy of Getty) NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! Jewel Kilcher may have sold over 30 million records and carved out a lasting career that has undergone countless transformations since she first emerged with her poetic-folk album "Pieces of You" in 1995, but these days, the singer-songwriter just wants to go home. We’re not talking about Nashville or Colorado, the two places where she currently resides. Rather, she was yearning to go back to Alaska — Homer, Alaska, to be exact. It’s where the 42-year-old was raised without running water or heat, rode horses every day in the summer, and was trained by her father to "sing good harmony and learn his songs." Jewel originally left decades ago to busk her way across the country (even becoming homeless in the process) until eventually she was discovered, and the rest — as they say — is history. Now, she wants her son, 5-year-old Kase Murray, to get a taste of her childhood, prompting her relocation to … [Read more...] about The ‘Jewel’ of Alaska Returns Home, Explains How Yodeling Saved Her Life

Footballer welcomes first baby after losing dad who got him onto pitch to rare cancer
Leyton Orient footballer Adam Thompson has opened up about welcoming a new baby months after losing to his beloved dad to a rare form of cancer. Adam Thompson, 28, went through an emotional rollercoaster when the death of his dad Mark, at the age of just 57, was followed by the birth of his own son Marley this year. Mark encouraged him to stick with the game that would become his life's passion, taking him to coaching sessions from the age of seven. Adam initially hated the sport - he would cry, scream and walk off the pitch. He only gave it another shot when his dad coaxed him back with a shiny new pair of boots, which he credits with winning him over and getting him to persevere. Since then, he's been a regular fixture on the pitch, scouted for Spurs as a youngster and making appearances for Watford, Southend, Brentford and Bradford throughout his career. Adam credits his beloved late dad Mark for getting him into the game ( Image: 30yard media Ltd) He helped … [Read more...] about Footballer welcomes first baby after losing dad who got him onto pitch to rare cancer

‘I couldn’t afford a home in the U.S., so I moved to Mexico’
Growing up in a single parent household in Miami, money was often tight. Seeing my mom struggle financially instilled a determination to make my own money. I started working from a very young age so she didn't have to spend as much on me. I didn't want to depend on anyone financially. After gaining my college degree in Biology I had planned to go to veterinarian school, but for various reasons, that didn't work out. Eventually, at the age of 21, I moved to Los Angeles , where I learned how to make a living online. I worked various low-paying jobs, including as a freelance writer and virtual assistant. For a while I even worked for a celebrity publicist, where I sharpened my skills in social media and blogging. Like most people who move to the city, I had to work really hard just to pay rent. My first place was a shared two-bed apartment which cost us $900 each in rent and around $300 per month in bills. I've always been a roamer and spent years working while traveling in my … [Read more...] about ‘I couldn’t afford a home in the U.S., so I moved to Mexico’
