CNN senior justice correspondent Evan Perez said Monday on “At This Hour” that he is “astonished” that former President Donald Trump’s legal team is not using ligation to slow the Justice Department’s investigation of the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago. Perez said, “One of the things that we’re waiting for and we’re frankly just astonished that we haven’t seen is a formal effort by the Trump team, by the former president and his lawyers to try to put some breaks on the Justice Department.” He continued, “What routinely happens in cases like this is they go to court, and they ask a judge, ‘Hey, they took attorney-client privilege material as part of this search.’ You accused the Justice Department of overreach. You try to at least slow things down to give the former president time to figure out how he’s going to defend himself. They haven’t done that. The only thing we’ve seen is this sort of Michael-Scott-style declaration by the former president on his Truth Social platform where he … [Read more...] about CNN’s Perez: Trump Issuing ‘Michael Scott-Style’ Declarations Not Litigation

CNN’s Ward: State Department Says It Might Not Be Able to Process all Afghanistan SIV Applications by the End of Biden’s Term
On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” CNN Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward stated that due to the “glacial rate” at which the applications for Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) are being processed, the State Department says it “might not even be able to process all these visa applications by the end of President Biden’s term.” And that while she was in Kabul, a man who said he was an interpreter for the U.S. military approached her for help. Ward stated that people who helped the U.S. and were left behind are “everywhere. There [are] tens of thousands of them. According to the State Department, nearly 160,000 Afghans are eligible to apply for the SIV, the Special Immigrant Visa, and the U.S., understandably, is completely snowed under. They’re being processed at a glacial rate, in part because of bureaucratic issues. The interviews that are necessary would have taken place at the U.S. embassy here in Kabul. Obviously, that’s not possible anymore, and people who are … [Read more...] about CNN’s Ward: State Department Says It Might Not Be Able to Process all Afghanistan SIV Applications by the End of Biden’s Term

McCabe: Trump Knows He Is Unleashing ‘Aggrieved, Politically Extreme People’ on FBI
Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe said Monday on CNN’s “New Day” that he believed former President Donald Trump knowingly unleashed “very aggrieved, politically extreme people” with his criticisms of the FBI’s raid on his Florida estate last week. McCabe was discussing the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issuing a bulletin warning law enforcement agencies of increased threats following the Mar-a-Lago search. McCabe said, “The FBI and DHS’ response over the last few days indicates to me that maybe they are taking this sort of violent rhetoric on largely right-wing social media sites more seriously than they did in the lead up to January 6th. That has always been a massive gap for me. It’s just not — it’s hard to understand how, with the level of rhetoric preceding January 6th, that the FBI and DHS, and other law enforcement entities didn’t take that seriously. The message they put out today tells me they’re watching it closely and trying to take appropriate steps.” … [Read more...] about McCabe: Trump Knows He Is Unleashing ‘Aggrieved, Politically Extreme People’ on FBI
Curiosity Killed The Walrus: This Animal Didn’t Have To Die
A famous Walrus in Norway was euthanized Sunday because locals and tourists were so arrogant they couldn’t leave the adorable creature alone, despite warnings that such behavior could cause her to be put down. The walrus affectionately known as “Freya” quickly rose to fame after sunbathing on boats docked near the Oslo Fjord, playing with ducks, and putting on an entertaining spectacle for onlookers, according to Insider . The 1300-pound creature was so enchanting that despite repeated warnings, mesmerized onlookers kept getting too close to the wild animal. Many attempted to take selfies and capture footage with her. This hardly seems like a reason to kill Freya, but that’s exactly what happened. The government felt there was “a chance” Freya would harm someone that got too close, and they cruelly ended her life . In memory of #Freya – the wandering Walrus that graced us here Shetland last winter. MURDERED today by the Directorate of Fisheries in #Norway because she … [Read more...] about Curiosity Killed The Walrus: This Animal Didn’t Have To Die

Byron Allen aims to add more inclusion in the news and media industry through purchase of Black News Channel
Media and entertainment mogul Byron Allen believes the news and media industry needs more inclusion, an issue he will address now that he is the owner of the Black News Channel (BNC). In July, Allen was approved by a Florida bankruptcy court to buy BNC for $11 million from the network’s former owner Shahid Khan. BNC is now part of Allen Media Group’s company portfolio of 12 television networks, including the Weather Channel. The acquisition also brought a change to the network’s name: it now goes by TheGrio, the West African term for storyteller. In a recent interview with CNN, Allen said that he wants the channel to be more inclusive, and that he doesn’t think there’s a need for a “Black news channel,” but rather a “good news channel.” He added that TheGrio will be “more focused on lifestyle, entertainment, news and sports.” Black News Channel was first launched in February 2020 by J.C. Watts with the mission to produce digital content by and for Black people. … [Read more...] about Byron Allen aims to add more inclusion in the news and media industry through purchase of Black News Channel
