Why Warriors’ Juan Toscano-Anderson loves Mariscos La Costa, an Oakland staple with no internet presence
For a certain generation of East Bay residents, there was no point of discovery for Mariscos La Costa, a Mexican seafood restaurant located on International Blvd. It was introduced like a family tradition; just a thing that people who found themselves around Fruitvale went to and knew about. Golden State Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson confirmed as much when I spoke to him recently. The 28-year-old, who famously grew up in the East Bay , couldn’t pinpoint when he entered the pavilion establishment off Fruitvale Station for the first time. But he sure as hell knows what he’s going to order when he goes to his favorite spot: three steak tacos, a burrito and a ceviche de camaron. “It’s kind of like if you’re doing Italian food, you go to a certain place for gelato, and you go to a certain place for different types of pasta,” Toscano-Anderson said. “That’s the thing with Mexican food, every place is different. I really appreciate the seafood there, so that’s why I primarily … [Read more...] about Why Warriors’ Juan Toscano-Anderson loves Mariscos La Costa, an Oakland staple with no internet presence
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Thinks China Might Be Right About America Being ‘Incompetent And Lazy’
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Tuesday that “there is truth” to what he feels is China’s position that the U.S. government is “incompetent and lazy.” Dimon made the comments while on a call with clients, according to Yahoo Finance. Though the full conversation focused on many areas, including the economy and climate change, he didn’t shy away from shining a light on what he feels are major geopolitical issues facing the globe. “China has serious issues. Our neighbors are peaceful. Mexico, Canada. Their neighbors are India, Pakistan, Russia, Vietnam. They don’t have enough energy and food. We do,” Dimon said, according to the outlet. “They kind of look at America and say, ‘you have been incompetent and lazy.’ There is truth to that. We have screwed up infrastructure. We have screwed up inner city schools. But I think it is a mistake to say that America has the short end of the stick.” ‘It Ends With China Having All Your Data’: Joe Rogan Astounded Reading Popular App’s … [Read more...] about JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Thinks China Might Be Right About America Being ‘Incompetent And Lazy’

China Celebrates the Taliban Giving Afghans ‘Better Security’
China, through its official Foreign Ministry and propaganda arms, celebrated the anniversary of the Taliban jihadist organization seizing power on Monday by repeatedly condemning America for its “failures” in the country and praising the Taliban for its “advanced” governance and improved “security.” The Chinese Communist Party has emerged in the past year as one of the Taliban’s most loyal foreign allies. Taliban spokesmen immediately expressed in public a desire to see the Communist Party invest in Afghanistan and for them to join Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global debt trap scheme in which China offers predatory loans to poor countries meant to be used to build infrastructure. “China, our great neighboring country, can have a constructive and positive role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and also in the economic development and prosperity of the people of Afghanistan,” Taliban spokesman and current United Nations envoy Suhail Shaheen said in an … [Read more...] about China Celebrates the Taliban Giving Afghans ‘Better Security’
Fact Check: Did Trump’s Truth Social publish an ad for a vaccine radar?
When Donald Trump 's Twitter account was suspended for "repeated and severe violations" of usage policy , the former president launched a new app, Truth Social, viewed as a response to the social media giant's actions. Trump has since used the platform to post, including spreading further misinformation, such as the ongoing false claim that Joe Biden 's 2020 election win was fraudulent. So, when a tweet appeared to share ads from Truth Social for "Mike Lindell's MyStraw...so you can easily drink up those liberal tears" and a Covid-19 vaccine radar, it might have seemed like a new victory for controversial and misleading actors. The Claim A tweet sent on 15 August, 2018, which has received more than 120,000 engagements, claimed to have found several ads from Donald Trump's Truth social app, including "Mike Lindell's My Straw," "Vax-Dar:The Vaccine Radar" and "Patriot Powder". Bus fares could be limited to £2 a journey – if services aren’t slashed first
Bus fares could be capped at £2 per journey in a bid to help Brits hit with soaring bills. Currently passengers outside London face paying up to £5 for each trip - and the same again on the way back. But Transport Secretary Grant Shapps today said he was putting forward plans to bring in an upper limit for 12 months. He pointed out that buses are used "disproportionately by people on lower incomes" - although the proposal comes at a time when hundreds of services are feared to be under threat. Four Labour mayors have warned a huge number of routes face the axe as operators cut back on costs. Writing in The Telegraph, Mr Shapps called for a £260 million government subsidy, stating: "I propose that we set a £2 fare cap for every bus journey in England outside London this autumn, lasting 12 months. Smokies to require parking passes beginning next March
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) — Beginning next March, visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park will need to purchase a parking pass to use the facilities. Park Superintendent Cassius Cash said in an interview the fee is needed to keep up with maintenance and staffing demands at the country's most visited national park. The Smokies have seen at 57% increase in visitors over the past decade with a record 14.1 million visits in 2021. However, appropriations aren't based on visitations and have remained relatively flat, Cash said. Due to a combination of deed restrictions and federal law, the park is not allowed to charge an entrance fee, so Cash said they had to look at other ways to increase revenue. In addition to the parking passes, the park is increasing camping fees. All the money raised will go directly into park staffing, deferred maintenance and operations, Cash … [Read more...] about Smokies to require parking passes beginning next March
