A road map for India-EU ties
While India celebrates its 75th year of Independence, it also celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations with the European Union (EU). A cooperation agreement signed in 1994 took the bilateral relationship beyond trade and economic cooperation. The first India-EU Summit, in June 2000, marked a watershed in the evolution of the relationship. At the fifth India-EU Summit in 2004, the relationship was upgraded to a ‘Strategic Partnership’. The two sides adopted a Joint Action Plan in 2005 towards strengthening dialogue and consultation mechanisms in the political and economic spheres, enhancing trade and investment, and bringing peoples and cultures together. The 15th India-EU Summit, in July 2020, provided a common road map to guide joint action and further strengthen the partnership over the next five years. The road map highlights engagement across five domains: foreign policy and security cooperation; trade and economy; sustainable modernisation partnership; global governance; and … [Read more...] about A road map for India-EU ties

Bitcoins per se are not illegal in India: Nishith Desai
With regulatory and enforcement agencies clamping down on Bitcoin operators in India, leading international legal and taxation expert Nishith Desai has given this cryptographic digital product a clean chit stating that Bitcoins per se are not illegal in India but how one deals with these may be matter of legality. “Our Bitcoins Practice Group examined the issue from techno-legal perspective, and we have found that Bitcoins per se are not illegal in India. This is in consonance with international approach,” said Nishith Desai, Founder & Managing Partner of Nishith Desai Associates. “Every new technology comes with new legal and tax problems and technology is a double-edged sword. It is very important that the new technology is understood in timely basis and appropriate regulatory regime is developed so that India does not miss out from a vast opportunity. We should not throttle this business,” Mr. Desai said. He said ten years ago, lot of people lost lot of money in dotcoms … [Read more...] about Bitcoins per se are not illegal in India: Nishith Desai
I-Day Speech: PM Narendra Modi Provides a Roadmap for [email protected]
The single largest takeaway for any Indian from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech from the ramparts of Red Fort on the first morning of the 76th year of a free India is that there is now a deadline for when India must evolve into a developed nation. This is the first time in the history of independent India that a prime minister has presented not only a blueprint with instructions on how we can change our status from developing to developed, but has also put an end-date to the plan — 2047 or [email protected] Let this sink in. Never before has a prime minister presented to an aspirational India the ultimate dream to become a developed nation with a deadline to hold themselves, their political party and their government accountable in case of failure. We Indians, for decades, have made compromises in our aspirations telling ourselves that it is too unachievable a goal and too unrealistic a dream. Partly due to an uninspired, disinterested political leadership, and … [Read more...] about I-Day Speech: PM Narendra Modi Provides a Roadmap for [email protected]
In A New Study, Analysts Probe If People With Spinal Injuries Can Walk And Run
An international research team has succeeded in recovering muscle movement in a model of paralysed mice organic through artificial nerves. The team was led by Prof. Tae-Woo Lee (Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Seoul National University, Republic of Korea) and Prof. Zhenan Bao (Department of Chemical Engineering, Stanford University, US). The outcome was published in the prestigious international journal “Nature Biomedical Engineering.” The nerves are easily harmed by a variety of factors, including physical injury, genetic factors, secondary problems, and ageing. The nerves are crucial for life activities and also have a substantial impact on quality of life. Additionally, some or all of their body functions are permanently lost due to poor bio-signaling because once nerves are injured, they are difficult to rebuild. The traumatic account of a celebrity’s spinal cord injury occasionally makes the news. Despite the dramatic advances in medicine and biology, the … [Read more...] about In A New Study, Analysts Probe If People With Spinal Injuries Can Walk And Run
Researchers develop 3D printed artificial cornea
HYDERABAD: Researchers from Hyderabad have 3D-printed an artificial cornea and transplanted it into a rabbit’s eye. A team of clinicians and scientists from the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), have collaborated to develop the 3D-printed cornea from the human donor corneal tissue which would have otherwise been discarded for not meeting optical standards for clinical transportation. The printed corneas need to undergo further clinical testing and development before they can be used in patients, which could take several years. The team is hopeful of a positive outcome. Funding sources While corneal substitutes are being actively researched throughout the world, they are either animal-based or synthetic. The Hyderabad-based team said that their product is completely natural, contains no synthetic components, and is free of animal residues. It is developed … [Read more...] about Researchers develop 3D printed artificial cornea
