MEMPHIS — Perhaps it was only fitting that a violent thunderstorm hit the TPC Southwind right about the time a federal judge in California ruled against a motion that would have allowed three players who cashed in on LIV Golf to play for $75 million in bonus money on the PGA Tour. On the eve of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the ruling resounded. “Common sense prevailed, and I thought it was the right decision,” said Rory McIlroy, a player-director on the PGA Tour board and the strongest voice against the rival league. “And now that it’s happened, I think it just lets us focus on the important stuff, which is the golf, and we can all move forward and not have that sideshow going on for the next few weeks, which is nice.” The important stuff? More money. The tour’s postseason starts Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of two tournaments offering a $15 million purse. The top 30 after two weeks advance to East Lake in Atlanta for a shot at winning the FedEx Cup and … [Read more...] about FedEx Cup playoffs are here and LIV Golf a lingering topic

‘Condones Exploitation, Helps to Plunder’: Kerala Minister Faces Flak after Criticising Constitution
Kerala minister Saji Cheriyan has courted controversy by criticising the Constitution, saying it “condones exploitation” and is written in a way that helps to “plunder” the people of the country, prompting condemnation from various quarters. The issue came to light when News18 Kerala on Tuesday aired a speech the CPI(M) leader gave recently during a political programme at Mallappally in the Pathanamthitta district. “The Indian constitution is written in a way to plunder people. The constitution written by Indians was dictated by the British. It has been implemented for 75 years. I won’t agree, whatever others say, India has written an ‘attractive’ constitution that can be used to pillage. Yes, there are indeed some references like secularism and democracy added in a few places but this is a constitution designed for looting,” the minister said in Malayalam. The minister was inaugurating a programme to felicitate the weekly political commentary programme by the area committee … [Read more...] about ‘Condones Exploitation, Helps to Plunder’: Kerala Minister Faces Flak after Criticising Constitution
‘Sneak Attack’: Charter Schools Sue Biden Administration Over New Rules
Several charter schools in Michigan and Ohio are suing the Department of Education (DOE) over a new rule that allegedly makes obtaining grants more difficult by making charter schools prove public schools are over-enrolled, according to the lawsuit. The new rule by the DOE began on Aug. 5 and requires charter schools applying for grants to show public schools are over-enrolled, get approval from public schools and demonstrate that the public schools are not serving large numbers of racial minority students, according to the Aug. 8 lawsuit. Michigan’s Charter School Association and the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, which oversees 13 Ohio charter schools, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan saying the guidance is illegal and punishes charter schools. The Spirit of Old West Point
FEBRUARY, 1907 (1858-1862) BY MORRIS SCHAFF I ON THE THRESHOLD SOME time during the winter of 185758, I received from the Hon. Samuel S. Cox, Member of Congress from Ohio, and representing the district composed of Licking, Franklin, and Pickaway, an appointment as cadet at West Point. I know it was winter time, for, across the vanished years, I can see the family gathered before the big wood fire, and my father entering, clad in his greatcoat — he had been to Newark and on his way home had stopped at the post office in Kirkersville—and bearing in his hand a large and significant-looking official letter. Removing his coat and adjusting his glasses, he opened the communication from Washington and read my appointment. Oh, the quiet radiance of my mother’s face! And never, I think, did fire burn so cheerily as ours burned that night, — and somehow, I am fain to believe, the curling smoke communicated the news to the old farm; for every field that I had wandered over from … [Read more...] about The Spirit of Old West Point

Dr. Anthony Fauci complained during a talk Tuesday evening that many Americans see forced masking policies as a violation of their liberties.
