Will Milk, Soap, Shampoo Prices Come Down After Edible Oil Price Cut? What FMCG Makers Say
Though the edible oil prices have come down as the import duties on them have been cut by the government, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies said they will not cut prices but instead will reduce the pace of price increases, according to a media report. The edible oil prices have been reduced by up to Rs 15-20 per litre. The branded edible oil makers are reducing the prices on the oil, including palm oil, as the central government recently cut import duties on them. The government this week reduced the base import prices of crude palm oil, soyoil, gold and silver. FMCGs include milk, soap, shampoo and biscuits. Palm oil and its derivatives are used in detergents, food products, biofuels and cosmetics. These are used in the manufacturing of several daily consumption goods such as shampoos, margarine, soaps, chocolates, biscuits and noodles. So, any rise in palm oil prices will push up the input costs across these industries. The new base import price of crude palm oil … [Read more...] about Will Milk, Soap, Shampoo Prices Come Down After Edible Oil Price Cut? What FMCG Makers Say
Putin dealt blow as Russian advance likely to stall in coming weeks
Russian offensive operations in Ukraine are likely to stall in the coming weeks, regardless of whether Vladimir Putin 's forces are able to capture the embattled twin cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk , according to a Washington-based think tank. The report, published by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on Thursday, comes as Putin's troops are pushing to capture Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, doing so would place all of Luhansk under Russian control and grant Putin a form of military victory . Russian forces have made consistent gains in the region in recent days. The ISW report said that if Ukraine were to lose the two cities, it "will not represent a major turning point in the war." "Ukrainian forces have fundamentally accomplished their objective in the battle by slowing down and degrading Russian forces," the analysis said. "Russian offensive operations will likely stall in the coming weeks ... likely granting Ukrainian forces the opportunity to launch … [Read more...] about Putin dealt blow as Russian advance likely to stall in coming weeks

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 Coming out as transgender as an adult? Never easy. Coming out as a transgender woman when you’re someone with a public profile? For Gisele Mayordo, known to professional wrestling fans as Gisele Shaw of Impact Wrestling, it was not a question of what’s going on in the rest of the world. The 33-year-old Filipino wrestler picked her time to come out publicly: Friday, June 24, 2022, at Toronto Pride in Canada. “There is really no perfect time to be coming out,” Mayordo told The Chronicle. “It’s my journey. With accounts flush, budget talks come down to schools aid
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — With a week to go until the state's budget deadline, Gov. Tom Wolf and leaders of the Republican-controlled Legislature are working through their remaining differences as they try to produce an agreement on a roughly $42 billion budget plan that they say will marshal substantial new aid for Pennsylvania’s public schools and environmental cleanups while cutting corporate taxes. Greasing the skids this year is a massive influx of tax receipts leaving the state’s bank accounts flush with — by some estimates — $12 billion in reserves and surpluses, boosted by inflation and an economy juiced with federal pandemic subsidies. There will be no broad tax cut, but there will be substantial new aid for public schools, as well as for services for the disabled, children and elderly that employ low-paid workers in high-turnover professions that suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lawmakers are also expected to approve significant sums of new money for mental health … [Read more...] about With accounts flush, budget talks come down to schools aid
Netflix CEO confirms adverts are coming to streaming service – leaving fans fuming
Netflix 's co-CEO has confirmed the long-suspected news that adverts are coming to the streaming platform in the near future. Ted Sarandos recently told those at the Cannes Lions advertising festival that Netflix has already begun speaking to potential advertisers ahead of the major shake-up. The plans come amid a tough year for the steaming giant, with Netflix losing around 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022 and expected to drop many more in the coming months. In addition to Netflix cracking down on subscribers sharing their account password with other households, the ongoing cost of living crisis has been suggested as a possible reason why the subscription streaming service is dropping in popularity - as many across the world cut back on non-essential services in an attempt to save money. Netflix has had a tough few months and struggling to keep long-time subscribers ( Image: Bloomberg via Getty Images) According to the Hollywood Reporter , … [Read more...] about Netflix CEO confirms adverts are coming to streaming service – leaving fans fuming

Boman Irani on his debut web series ‘Masoom’, script selection, and his approach towards a character
Boman Irani recently made his OTT debut with Masoom , currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. The word debut, usually reserved for newbies, somehow does not suit this veteran of over 200 films. But Boman, 62, is excited about it. For, every time he signs up to play a new role, he feels like entering a whole new world. Each character is unique, he says. In Masoom , created by Gurmeet Singh, he plays Balraj Kapoor, a well-connected doctor who seems to be holding on to some dark family secrets. Unsurprisingly, this was not the first web series script he was offered. “I got many offers which were pretty good. Somehow, the dates didn’t quite work out. But in Masoom ’s case, I had a nice break after a project,” he says. Despite his preference for being lazy, Boman’s a busy man even at this age. Just a few weeks ago, the Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar , in which he played a major role, was released. He has finished shooting his portions for Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki , … [Read more...] about Boman Irani on his debut web series ‘Masoom’, script selection, and his approach towards a character
One in five workers likely to switch jobs in next 12 months
Nearly one in five employees expect to quit their current jobs and switch to a new employer within the next 12 months, a new survey has found. Research by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) revealed that a further third of respondents said they were “moderately or slightly likely” to switch jobs, while 16 per cent are planning to leave the workforce temporarily or permanently. The survey involved 52,195 workers across 44 countries, which the firm says is “one of the largest ever surveys of the global workforce”. Of the respondents, more than 2,000 are from the UK. The survey found that more than a quarter (27 per cent) of British workers are planning to ask their employers for a raise in the next 12 months, with this figure rising to 35 per cent globally. In terms of what the main motivators for a job change are, 72 per cent said a pay rise was the top reason, followed by wanting a fulfilling job (68 per cent) and wanting to “truly be themselves at work” (63 per … [Read more...] about One in five workers likely to switch jobs in next 12 months
The greatest living American issues his career-defining court opinion | Opinion
On Thursday, the single greatest living American used the occasion of his 74th birthday to remind of his greatness . He did so by issuing the single piece of writing that, at least thus far, best encapsulates and defines his career as one of the most towering constitutionalists in the history of the republic. It is unfortunate that Justice Clarence Thomas, an intellectual trailblazer of an originalist constitutional interpretive methodology who celebrated his 30-year anniversary on the Supreme Court last fall, had to date failed to pen a Court majority opinion that law students and legal practitioners could readily point to as his signature achievement—his juridical magnum opus . Much of Thomas' most impactful, and certainly culturally salient, writings have come in dissent. He has of course had ample opportunity to write majority opinions over the span of his illustrious Court tenure, but those majority opinions have typically come in more arcane legal realms, such as habeas … [Read more...] about The greatest living American issues his career-defining court opinion | Opinion
