On Friday evening, Mr. Thackeray held a meeting with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and a party delegation to discuss the possible strategy to save the government. Spanish PM blames traffickers, migrants for deaths at border

June 28, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

Spain's prime minister is defending the way Moroccan and Spanish police repelled migrants last week as they tried to cross the shared border into the north African enclave of Melilla , depicting the attempt in which at least 23 people died as “an attack on Spain's borders.” “We must remember that many of these migrants attacked Spain’s borders with axes and hooks,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said during an interview Monday with The Associated Press. “We are talking about an attempt to assault the fence that was evidently carried out in an aggressive way, and therefore what Spain’s state security forces and Moroccan guards did was defend Spain’s borders.” Authorities in Morocco have blamed the deaths on a “stampede” of people that formed early Friday as hundreds attempted to scale or break through the 12-meter (29-feet) iron double fence. The barrier surrounds Melilla, a town of 85,000 separated from the Spanish mainland by the Strait of Gibraltar. Russian Lawmakers to Review Putin’s Nomination After Government’s Shocking Resignation

January 16, 2020 by www.news18.com

Moscow: Russian lawmakers will begin reviewing President Vladimir Putin's nomination of a little-known tax chief as the new prime minister on Thursday after his announcement of a sweeping constitutional shake-up fuelled speculation about his future plans. The overwhelmingly Kremlin-loyal State Duma lower parliament is likely to approve Mikhail Mishustin for the role, following the shock resignation of the government in the wake of Putin's call for reforms to reshape Russia's political system. The series of bombshell announcements made during and after Putin's state of the nation speech triggered speculation about his role past 2024, when his current presidential term expires. Some suggested 67-year-old Putin, who is currently two years into his fourth presidential term and has steered the country since 1999, could be laying the groundwork to assume a new post or remain in a powerful behind-the-scenes role. It is also unclear whether Mishustin, a relatively obscure technocrat … [Read more...] about Russian Lawmakers to Review Putin’s Nomination After Government’s Shocking Resignation

June 28, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

The story so far: In a historic moment for Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on June 25 inaugurated the Padma Multipurpose Bridge across thePadma river, calling it “a symbol of pride.” The bridge is currently the longest in the country. The inauguration took place over 20 years after Ms. Hasina laid the foundation stone. The bridge will connect nearly 30 million people living in the country’s less-developed southwestern region with the capital Dhaka and other areas. Seen as a symbol of Bangladesh’s resolve and its successful development journey, the infrastructure project was self-financed by the Bangladesh government despite the apprehensions of experts. The bridge was constructed at a cost of $3.6 billion. Besides its potential to transform trade and communication in the region, the government estimates that the Padma Bridge will boost the country’s GDP by 1.2 per cent Also Read India congratulates Bangladesh as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opens Padma bridge … [Read more...] about Explained | Bangladesh’s Padma Bridge and why Dhaka clarified reports linking it with China
