June 3, 2012 by www.thehindu.com

A week after Nepal’s Constituent Assembly got dissolved without delivering a constitution, the political stalemate in the country shows no signs of being resolved. On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai spoke exclusively to The Hindu about the events of May 27 and the future roadmap. Excerpts: Q. When you took over, your stated agenda was peace and constitution. The Constituent Assembly is gone, and Nepal does not have a constitution. What went wrong? A. I am highly disappointed that I couldn’t fulfill my promises in the given timeframe. My focus was on the completion of peace process and making the constitution by May 27. About the constitution, the problem was the very retrograde and status-quoist thinking of major political parties like Nepali Congress (NC) and Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist … [Read more...] about There is no alternative to elections: Baburam Bhattarai

Priyanka Gandhi to campaign for State Assembly polls next year

May 23, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

State Congress president D.K. Shivakumar on Monday said the party’s national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has agreed to campaign for the State Assembly elections next year. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, he said: “We have said that she should spend time for the State during Assembly elections and she has agreed to it.” This comes amid speculation that a section of the State Congress leaders, including Mr. Shivakumar, want Ms. Priyanka to contest the June 10 Rajya Sabha polls from the State, as they consider it may benefit the party during the Assembly polls next year. Mr. Shivakumar had recently said the party wants Ms. Priyanka to concentrate on the South, where elections are coming up. Mr. Shivakumar’s visit to the national capital came amid talks about differences between him and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah regarding probable candidates recommended to the high command for upcoming MLC polls in the state. Mr. Shivakumar said he had come to … [Read more...] about Priyanka Gandhi to campaign for State Assembly polls next year
