Savers scouring the market for a cash Isa will find the biggest month-on-month jump in the rates on offer in a decade, according to analysis. The average easy access Isa rate in April is 0.38% – up from 0.30% in March – Moneyfacts.co.uk found. The financial information website said the 0.08 percentage point increase is the biggest monthly rise for this type of account since April 2012. Someone saving £5,000 into an easy access cash Isa could typically make £15 in interest over a year if they do not dip into the pot based on March’s average annual rate, increasing to £19 based on April’s average rate. The average easy access cash Isa rate is the best it has been since June 2020, when it was 0.45%, Moneyfacts said. Vodafone ahead of expectations but warns of inflation hit
Vodafone slightly beat analyst expectations as it reported its annual results days after gaining a major investor from the Middle East. The business said its revenue totalled 45.6 billion euros (£38.4 billion) over the year to the end of March. Experts had expected it to reach 45.4 billion euros (£38.2 billion). It was down to growth in Europe and Africa , the business told shareholders on Tuesday. “We delivered a good financial performance in the year with growth in revenues, profits and cash flows, in line with our medium-term financial ambitions,” chief executive Nick Read said. New record diesel price as retailers accused of hiking profits after duty cut
Diesel prices have hit a new high amid claims retailers hiked profits following the 5p per litre fuel duty cut. Figures from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy show the average price of a litre of diesel at UK forecourts was 179.7p on Monday. That was up from 178.4p a week earlier. The average price of petrol on Monday was 165.1p per litre. That was narrowly below the record of 165.4p set on March 21, based on the Government’s figures. Reward offered after several pythons worth thousands stolen from pet store
A pet store in Stockton, California is offering a cash reward after three thieves allegedly stole snakes worth thousands of dollars on Sunday. The men visited Carter's Pet Mart at around 6:42 p.m. before they allegedly walked out with several expensive ball pythons, valued at over $1,400. According to Carter's Pet Mart, the men took the snakes and entered a truck after leaving the store. "They entered the store around 6:42 Sunday evening, grabbed the snakes, and got into a newer model 4-door Ford truck," wrote Carter's Pet Mart online. Images shared by the store allegedly show the three men on surveillance footage, walking out of the store with the snakes. CBI to probe paper leak for Himachal Pradesh constable recruitment test
The Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to hand over to the CBI a case of the leakage of question papers for the recruitment test of constables in the state police force. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, in a hurriedly called press conference at his official residence Oakover here, said the State government has decided to hand over the probe into the case to the CBI. The first reason for entrusting the task to the central investigative agency is to ensure a fair and impartial probe into the case, he said. The case was currently being investigated by a special investigating team of the State police which itself was conducting the written test for the recruitment of constables, he added. The second reason, the chief minister said, is the inter-state aspect of the crime as the SIT which had been probing the case till now has found criminals living in ten different States of the country involved in the paper leakage. PetChem buys Perstorp in RM10.5bil deal
KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PCG) has announced the landmark acquisition of the entire equity interest in Perstorp Holding AB for RM7.018bil cash. In a statement Tuesday, PCG said it had on May 14 signed a securities purchase agreement to acquire Perstorp, a leading sustainability-driven global specialty chemicals company, for EUR1.538bil, which is equivalent to RM7.018bil. The agreement was signed with Financière Forêt S.à.r.l, a company under PAI Partners, a European private equity firm. KUALA LUMPUR: Chin Hin Group Bhd plans to dispose of 19.34 per cent stake in Solarvest Holdings Bhd to Divine Inventions for RM103.28 million. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Chin Hin said the stake sale represented all of Solarvest shares held by Chin Hin. "The parties shall complete the sale and purchase within one month from the unconditional date or such further period to be agreed by the parties,” it said. The company also proposes to utilise RM102.72 million of the proceeds to repay part of the existing bank borrowings of Chin Hin and its subsidiaries, which amounted to RM790.89 million as at Dec 31, 2021. Borneo Oil acquires 22.5% in MTSB for RM73.56mil
KUALA LUMPUR: Borneo Oil Bhd has entered into a sale of shares agreement with MT 23 Resources Ltd (MT 23) to acquire 28.36 million shares, or 22.49% of the existing equity interest in Makin Teguh Sdn Bhd (MTSB), a manufacturer of clinker and cement products, for RM73.56mil. Borneo Oil, in a filing with Bursa Malaysia, said the purchase consideration was on a willing-buyer-willing-seller basis. It would be satisfied by way of treasury shares transfer and cash from internally generated funds.
