CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Friday criticized President Joe Biden for being too mean to unvaccinated Americans, blasting the president’s allegedly “scolding tone” during the announcement of his new six-prong plan to combat the surging COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday, the president revealed sweeping vaccine rules attempting to push the large minority of Americans who remain unvaccinated to finally get the shot. Besides requiring all federal employees to be vaccinated within 75 days, Biden also announced new rules requiring a sizable number of private-sector employees to either be vaccinated or produce weekly negative COVID-19 test results. During his speech, the president also expressed frustration with the tens of millions of Americans who have refused to get vaccinated, essentially blaming them for a prolonged pandemic. “What more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see? We’ve made vaccinations free, safe, and convenient,” Biden exclaimed. “The vaccine is FDA … [Read more...] about Jake Tapper Slams Biden for ‘Scolding’ Unvaccinated Americans

Watch: cartoon alien aims to ease World Cup culture shock in Qatar
A cartoon series on an alien who crash-lands in World Cup host Qatar aims to ease a culture clash between more than a million foreign football fans and the conservative state's residents. Like the arriving fans, Kawkabani, star of the series launched by Qatar's first animation studio, has to learn Arabic pronunciation, how to drink coffee - and to discover that Qataris prepare way too much food for their guests. Creators Hossein Heydar and Amal al-Shammari hope the series will help Qataris to be more understanding of the 1.4 million football fanatics expected to besiege them in November and December. Conservative Qataris prefer sipping on speciality coffee and fruit juices while European football fans are known for their beer fuelled good times in the street. Kawkabani seeks "to explain to Qataris that there must be acceptance of these cultures... and help them (visitors) coexist or understand the Qatari culture as well," said Shammari, who wrote the scripts. The first two … [Read more...] about Watch: cartoon alien aims to ease World Cup culture shock in Qatar

North Korea confirms 21 new deaths as it battles COVID-19
North Korea says 21 people died and 174,440 people were newly found with fever symptoms on Friday alone as the country scrambles to slow the spread of COVID-19 across its unvaccinated population. North Korea said Saturday 27 people have died and 524,440 fell ill amid a rapid spread of fever since late April. It said 280,810 people remain in quarantine. State media didn’t specifically say how many of the fever cases and deaths were confirmed as COVID-19 cases. State media said tests of virus samples collected Sunday from an unspecified number of people with fevers in the country’s capital, Pyongyang , confirmed they were infected with the omicron variant. First Covid-19 death reported
Seoul: North Korea confirmed its first Covid-19 death, saying fever was spreading “explosively” nationwide and tens of thousands of people were being isolated after falling sick. The insular country only reported its first Covid-19 cases on Thursday, saying it was moving into “maximum emergency epidemic prevention system” after sick patients in the capital Pyongyang tested positive for the Omicron variant. North Korea has been under a rigid coronavirus blockade since the start of the pandemic in 2020, but with massive Omicron outbreaks in all neighbouring countries, experts said it was only a matter of time before Covid-19 snuck in. “A fever whose cause couldn’t be identified explosively spread nationwide from late April,” the official Korean Central News Agency said. “Six persons died (one of them tested positive for the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron),” it added. With its 25 million people unvaccinated against Covid-19, North Korea’s crumbling health infrastructure would … [Read more...] about First Covid-19 death reported

What kids are watching in 2022
My 12-year-old daughter loves to go down the YouTube rabbit hole in pursuit of shows, cartoons or videos that pique her interest. I monitor her content, of course, and pull the brakes or guide her whenever necessary. Like many families in urban India, we do not watch linear television and we do not have a cable connection. Instead, we use OTT streaming services — Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime. YouTube is a favourite too and the explosive appeal of these platforms among children has led to more diverse and interesting content. Republicans Have Sex Ed All Wrong
If you ask some ( okay, many ) conservative pundits , Democrats are “ grooming ” children . As in, grooming them to be abused by pedophiles. Some Republicans have even accused Democrats of being pedophiles themselves . The grooming charges lump together concerns that kids are being introduced too early to sexually explicit material, to the existence of transgender people, and to non-heterosexual sexual orientations. In March, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed what critics have dubbed the “ Don’t Say Gay ” bill, a measure that discourages teachers from discussing gender identity or sexual orientation in classrooms. Versions of the measure have been proposed in at least a dozen other states. Referring to the bill, DeSantis’s spokesperson Christina Pushaw tweeted, “If you’re against the Anti-Grooming Bill, you are probably a groomer or at least you don’t denounce the grooming of 4-8 year old children.” A pastor even organized an “anti-grooming” rally at … [Read more...] about Republicans Have Sex Ed All Wrong
