With 75 Payloads Built By 750 Girls, ISRO’s Smallest Rocket Carrying Tiranga to Launch Big Dreams
On August 15, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made an announcement that the Tricolour will be unfurled in space during India’s 75th year of Independence. Keeping with the promise of unfurling the flag in space, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be launching its smallest commercial rocket Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) on August 7, which will also carry the national flag into space. While the PM’s promise was to “undertake a manned space mission on board ‘Gaganyaan’ carrying the national flag”, that project has been delayed. ISRO’s SSLV, however, is a feat on its own as it was developed to place satellites and payloads weighing less than 500 kg into the earth’s lower orbit. The official launch will take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9:18 am on August 7. To mark country’s celebrations of ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the SSLV will have a co-passenger satellite called ‘AzaadiSAT’ comprising 75 payloads built by 750 young … [Read more...] about With 75 Payloads Built By 750 Girls, ISRO’s Smallest Rocket Carrying Tiranga to Launch Big Dreams
China Carries Out Mock Taiwan Attack Drill in Response to Pelosi Visit
Chinese aircraft and warships practised on Saturday for an attack on Taiwan, island officials said, in retaliation for a visit there by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that also saw Beijing halt dialogue with the United States in several areas. Pelosi’s brief unannounced visit during the week to the self-ruled island claimed by China infuriated Beijing and has prompted unprecedented military drills that have included ballistic missiles fired over the capital, Taipei. The Chinese exercises are scheduled to last until midday on Sunday. On Saturday morning, Taiwan’s defence ministry said multiple Chinese ships and planes conducted missions in the Taiwan Strait, with some crossing the median line, an unofficial buffer separating the two sides, movements that Taiwan’s military believes were part of a simulation attack on the main Taiwan island. Taiwan’s army broadcast a warning and deployed air reconnaissance patrol forces and ships to monitor while putting shore-based missiles on … [Read more...] about China Carries Out Mock Taiwan Attack Drill in Response to Pelosi Visit

Court Strikes Down D.C.’s Ban On Carrying Handguns In Public
In a measure that is likely to cause a fiery debate over gun laws in the nation’s capital, the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia struck down Washington’s ban on carrying handguns in public on Saturday. The court based its decision in the case, titled Palmer v. District of Columbia , on the Supreme Court’s famous ruling in D.C. v. Heller that affirmed an individual’s right to possess a firearm under the Second Amendment. “In light of Heller, McDonald, and their progeny, there is no longer any basis on which this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny,” read the statement of Judge Frederick Scullin Jr. “Therefore, the Court finds that the District of Columbia’s complete ban on the carrying of handguns in public is unconstitutional.” The court’s decision — barring a likely challenge from the city — will allow eligible citizens to … [Read more...] about Court Strikes Down D.C.’s Ban On Carrying Handguns In Public

You can watch the visuals of the launch over here: At the end of a seven and a half hour countdown, the 34 metre long SSLV soared majestically at 9.18 am amid cloudy skies to place the satellites into the intended orbit. India, US to Carry Out Mega Military Exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October
India and the US will kick-start an over two-week-long mega military exercise in Uttarakhand's Auli in October amid the fast-evolving regional security scenario. The 18th edition of exercise "Yudh Abhyas" is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 31, sources in the defence and military establishment said on Wednesday. A number of complex drills are being planned for the mega exercise, they said. The last edition of the exercise took place in October last year in Alaska in the US. The sources said the exercise is aimed at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the armies of India and the US. The "Yudh Abhyas" exercise is taking place in the backdrop of India's lingering border row with China in eastern Ladakh. The Indo-US defence ties have been on an upswing for the last few years. In June 2016, the US designated India a "Major Defence Partner". The two countries have also inked key defence and security pacts over the past few years, including … [Read more...] about India, US to Carry Out Mega Military Exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October
Jill Biden carries out new mission in 2nd year as first lady
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 10 WASHINGTON (AP) — Jill Biden barnstormed the country during her debut year as first lady as if on a one-woman mission to help her husband's administration tackle the problem of the moment: getting people vaccinated and boosted against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. New headwinds blowing in year two — President Joe Biden's low standing with the public and November elections that could put Republicans back in control of Congress — have set her on a fresh mission: working to help elect Democrats who can help her husband. She's making no secret of her frustration with Washington. “Joe truly believes in working with Congress and getting things done, but obviously the Republicans are pulling together and they're not budging. They are not budging,” the first lady said at one of four fundraisers she headlined in the past month. “Who would think … [Read more...] about Jill Biden carries out new mission in 2nd year as first lady
AP Warns: SCOTUS 2A Ruling Created ‘Open Season on U.S. Gun Laws’
Two Associated Press (AP) writers warn that a June 23, 2022, ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has created “open season on U.S. gun laws.” Breitbart News reported on the decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA) v. Bruen , in which SCOTUS ruled that New York’s proper cause requirement for concealed carry permit issuance was unconstitutional. According to Lindsay Whitehurst and Alanna Durkin Richer of the AP , the ruling “threatens to upend firearms restrictions across the country as activists wage court battles over issues including age limits and bans on AR-15-style guns.” Moreover, they suggest that the ruling came at a bad time, one in which President Biden and Democrats in Congress are pushing for even more gun control throughout the country. Jonathan Lowry, chief counsel of the gun control lobby’s Brady campaign, suggested that the SCOTUS decision means that money that could be spent implementing gun control will … [Read more...] about AP Warns: SCOTUS 2A Ruling Created ‘Open Season on U.S. Gun Laws’
