EPIC Unlikely to Prevail in Challenge to FTC Stance on Google Privacy

· February 23, 2012 ·

A federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia agreed earlier this month to fast-track a lawsuit by a privacy group against the Federal Trade Commission, arguing that the FTC has failed to enforce the terms of a settlement agreement it reached with Google last year after the FTC accused Google of violating privacy regulations in the launch of Google Buzz.Last year, Google and the FTC agreed on a settlement stemming from allegations that Google violated its own privacy promises to consumers when it launched its social network, Google Buzz. That investigation began with a complaint filed by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), the same group that is the plaintiff in this current case. EPIC is not suing Google and was not a party to the settlement reached between Google and the FTC. At the time of the settlement, the FTC said it “bars the company from future privacy misrepresentations, requires it to implement a comprehensive privacy program and … [Read more...] about EPIC Unlikely to Prevail in Challenge to FTC Stance on Google Privacy

Dershowitz: FBI Waging ‘Epic Battle’ for Michael Cohen’s ‘Soul’

· April 22, 2018 ·

The FBI raid on President Donald Trump's personal attorney "is an epic battle for the soul and cooperation of Michael Cohen," and prosecutors have "enormous weapons" to "pressure and coerce a witness," civil liberties expert Alan Dershowitz said Sunday. "Oh, it's a very serious threat," Dershowitz, Harvard professor emeritus, told ABC's "This Week." "This is an epic battle for the soul and the cooperation of Michael Cohen. And prosecutors have enormous weapons at their disposal. "They can threaten him, essentially, with life imprisonment. They can threaten his parents. They can threaten his spouse. They have these enormous abilities to really put pressure and coerce a witness." President Trump might hold the trump card, though, Dershowitz said. "On the other hand, the president has a unique weapon that no other criminal defendant or suspect ever has: He has the pardon power," Dershowitz added. "And go back to Christmas, 1992, when President [George H.W.] Bush exercised that pardon … [Read more...] about Dershowitz: FBI Waging ‘Epic Battle’ for Michael Cohen’s ‘Soul’

The merger is to take place on January 1st, and the merger will make it as one of the larger accounting firms in the area.Barnes Dennig is currently located in Cincinnati. But rather than just expand in the Northern Kentucky area, the new firm would like to expand "regionally in Kentucky" as well.It is felt that such a merger will bring together differing strengths of the two firms. Hospital Consolidations: Facing Competing Pressures to Merge and Remain Independent

· June 17, 2012 ·

The past 18 months have been a busy time for the staffers investigating hospital mergers at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In December 2011, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit affirmed a district court's denial of an FTC preliminary injunction motion,[1] from which the FTC and Solicitor General in March 2012 filed a petition seeking review by the U.S. Supreme Court (the "Phoebe Transaction"). Also in March, the FTC ruled that the 2010 acquisition of control over a rival health system in the Toledo, Ohio, area would have anticompetitive effects and ordered divestiture;[2] the parties reportedly plan to appeal (the "ProMedica Transaction"). In April 2012, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois granted the FTC's request for a preliminary injunction against two hospital systems in Rockford, Illinois,[3] prompting the parties to abandon their proposed transaction (the "OSF/Rockford Transaction").At issue in each of these challenges was … [Read more...] about Hospital Consolidations: Facing Competing Pressures to Merge and Remain Independent

Kavanaugh nomination touches off epic Supreme Court confirmation battle; Dems warn of ‘deaths of countless women’

· July 8, 2018 ·

close Video Kavanaugh: I am deeply honored to fill Kennedy's seat President Trump nominates Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. President Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy has set the stage for a bruising confirmation battle, as Senate Democrats and liberal groups vowed to resist what could be a dramatic and long-lasting rightward shift on the Supreme Court. Within seconds of Trump's announcement in the White House Monday night, the far-left political action committee Democracy for America called Kavanaugh, 53, a "reactionary ideologue" whose confirmation would "directly lead to the deaths of countless women with the dismantling of abortion rights." And in a statement, the Women's March said ominously: "Trump’s announcement today is a death sentence for thousands of women in the United States." “Trump’s announcement today is a death sentence for thousands of women in the United … [Read more...] about Kavanaugh nomination touches off epic Supreme Court confirmation battle; Dems warn of ‘deaths of countless women’
