A study has revealed that over 35,000 girls in Belgium have either been victims of female genital mutilation (FGM) or are at risk of becoming victims, a number that has steadily increased in recent years. The figures come from a report presented by FPS Public Health and the Institute for the Equality of Women and Men and presented alongside Belgian Secretary of State for Gender Equality Sarah Schlitz, who revealed significant growth in those who are victims or at risk of being victims of FGM. A previous study from 2016 claimed that 17,575 women and girls were “mostly likely circumcised” while 8,342 were at risk of FGM. According to the figures, the number of victims and those at risk has steadily increased since records began in 2007, newspaper 7sur7 reports . TS SSC Results 2022 Declared: Pass Percentage at Three-Year Low, Special Classes to Fill Learning Gaps
Of the 5,03,570 students who registered to appear for the Telangana 10th exams, as many as 4,53,201 students have passed. The pass percentage is the lowest in three years, with as many as 90% of students passing the TS SSC. Not only is there a drop of a huge 10 percentage points when compared with last year when all 100% of students were promoted but also the pass percentage has dipped from 2019 – when the TSBSE had held board exams last. Since for the past two years, the Telangana Board is not conducting exams, the result seems to have mirrored the reality of learning among students after two years of school shut down and online classes. The Telangana Board has decided to hold two hours of daily classes for students who have failed. This is aimed at covering up the learning losses. For students who could not clear their exams, advanced supplementary exams will be held from August 1 to August 10. Girls Performed Better Than Boys Gender-wise, girls have performed better than … [Read more...] about TS SSC Results 2022 Declared: Pass Percentage at Three-Year Low, Special Classes to Fill Learning Gaps

Body Of 21-Year-Old Who Went Missing After Her Uncle Picked Her Up Found Buried In Barn
The body of a 21-year-old girl who went missing more than a month ago in Missouri was found June 18. Jessi Wilfong was reported missing May 25 by her mother and was last seen alive days earlier on May 19 when she was captured on surveillance footage arriving at the home of her uncle, Lawrence Schanda, and his 59-year-old girlfriend Teresa Baumgartner, Fox 3 Now reported . The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s office immediately launched an investigation into her disappearance, with authorities issuing a search warrant June 15 at a residence. Authorities suspected “from the evidence collected and other information” that “foul play was involved” in Wilfong’s disappearance. During the investigation, “information led deputies to a location in close proximity to the previously searched residence,” on June 18, according to the sheriff’s office. “Subsequent investigation revealed the site of a recently dug portion of ground inside of a barn structure,” the sheriff’s office … [Read more...] about Body Of 21-Year-Old Who Went Missing After Her Uncle Picked Her Up Found Buried In Barn
NHS Failing to Properly Question ‘Transgender’ Patients Before Surgery
The UK’s publicly funded healthcare system is not properly questioning its “transgender” patients before surgery, a former “transgender woman” has alleged. A person who formerly lived as a “transgender woman” has alleged that the UK’s socialised healthcare system is not properly questioning people before they undergo sex-change surgery. Ritchie Herron, who has returned to identifying as a man, voiced the allegations while saying that he intended to take legal action against the British National Health Service (NHS) over the way it treated him. According to a report by The Times , Herron claimed that the socialised healthcare provider failed to heed his own concerns about undergoing transgender surgery, with medics even allegedly putting down his fears to his obsessive compulsive disorder. As a result, Herron reportedly ended up undergoing a “vaginoplasty surgery”, the results of which have allegedly left him in pain, with no sex drive, and with problems emptying his … [Read more...] about NHS Failing to Properly Question ‘Transgender’ Patients Before Surgery

As G7 Nations Come Together to Corner Russia, PM Modi Bats for Dialogue and Diplomacy
Six of the G7 countries are members of NATO, while the seventh, Japan, is dependent on its defence on the United States. All, including Japan, can be broadly classified as the West. If the narrative in recent years has been that political and economic power has decisively shifted towards Asia and the West no longer dominates the world as it did traditionally, that recognition seems to be missing from the inordinately long communiqué that the G7 summit in Germany has issued. It is imperial in tone, carrying a sense that the G7 has the power to decide and dispense. After the 2008 financial crisis the G7 led by the US felt the need to enlist the cooperation of major economic powers outside the West to stabilise the global financial system through coordination of national policies. Besides India, China, the second largest economy, was included in a G20, which was raised from the existing Finance Minister to Summit level. Today, China is treated as an adversary, and the harshness of G7 … [Read more...] about As G7 Nations Come Together to Corner Russia, PM Modi Bats for Dialogue and Diplomacy
Women are now seen as little more than ‘living wombs’
The supposed “land of the free” is the latest of a growing list of countries who have infantilised women, as no longer having the right to control their own bodies, thanks to the overturning of Roe v Wade . This once-landmark decision making it clear that the US constitution protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose an abortion has been eschewed in favour of individual states deciding their own abortion laws. As a barrister, I am sometimes criticised for supposedly “not respecting” the integrity of the rule of law. Well, it is my view that the criminalisation of abortion shows that we are not all accountable to the same laws. The law is made by men, for men: to control, dominate and subjugate women. The law has no place regulating our bodies. Yet thanks to Roe v Wade , women are now seen as little more than “living wombs”. This week, 13 US states made abortion illegal – and that figure is predicted to rise to 26 out of the 50 states. The ruling … [Read more...] about Women are now seen as little more than ‘living wombs’
Rick Astley looks back at “Never Gonna Give You Up” turning thirty-five
The first time British singer Rick Astley was introduced to what would become his smash pop hit, 1987's "Never Gonna Give You Up," was when Mike Stock of the production team Stock Aitken Waterman sang the song's melody and worked out the chords in the recording studio. At the time, Astley was not only a signed artist to SAW but also served as their tea boy—a sort of apprentice or intern who did odd jobs for them. "I'm literally brewing the coffee while this is happening," Astley tells Newsweek . "I kind of thought, 'Oh that's interesting,' because it's super catchy. As I heard it being built, I said to myself, 'If I was in a club with my friends, I'd dance to that.'" Released 35 years ago, "Never Gonna Give You Up," which appeared on Astley's debut album Whenever You Need Somebody , became the blue-eyed soul singer's first No. 1 smash in the U.S., followed by the hit singles "Together Forever" and "It Would Take a Strong Strong Man." Not only "Never Gonna Give You Up" has … [Read more...] about Rick Astley looks back at “Never Gonna Give You Up” turning thirty-five
