Teen girl charged with kidnapping, trafficking of 13-year-old: Police

June 25, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Police on Wednesday morning rescued a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped by another teenager, in what authorities currently believe was a human trafficking situation. The incident occurred in Canton, Georgia, just after 10:20 a.m. when officers of the Canton Police Department approached a 2014 Dodge Caravan that had been reported stolen. A young woman was seen driving the car while using a cellphone, while a younger girl was also observed, Fox 11 News reported Friday. Once pulled over, the teen driver was unable to provide any license or registration for the vehicle. Upon searching the car, officers found 13 THC vape cartridges, three vape pens, a THC-laced candy themed after Nerds Rope, and numerous pieces of lingerie. The officers were eventually able to ascertain that the 16-year-old driver was planning to transport the younger girl over state lines, leading them to suspect a human trafficking scenario. Police were able to reunite the 13-year-old with her family. … [Read more...] about Teen girl charged with kidnapping, trafficking of 13-year-old: Police

US Abortion Ruling: Police at Arizona Capitol Fire Tear Gas, Disperse Protesters

June 25, 2022 by www.news18.com

Police fired tear gas to disperse anti-abortion demonstrators from outside the Arizona Capitol Friday night, forcing lawmakers to huddle briefly in a basement inside the building as they rushed to complete their 2022 session. Thousands of protesters had gathered earlier on the Capitol grounds in Phoenix, divided into groups both supporting and condemning the US Supreme Courts decision overturning Roe v. Wade. SWAT team members with the Department of Public Safety fired tear gas from second floor of the old Capitol building to disperse protesters in the mall between the current House and Senate buildings. KPHO-TV reported the officers opened fire when several anti-abortion protesters started banging on glass doors of the Senate building. Authorities said there were no injuries or arrests. The incident sent Senate lawmakers into the basement for about 20 minutes, said Democratic Sen. Martin Quezada. Stinging tear gas wafted through the building afterward, forcing the Senate to … [Read more...] about US Abortion Ruling: Police at Arizona Capitol Fire Tear Gas, Disperse Protesters

Three-year-old missing for months found dead in mom’s basement freezer

June 25, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A mother was arrested Friday after police discovered the decaying body of her 3-year-old son in her basement freezer. Police arrived at the home in the Monte Vista neighborhood of Detroit in the early morning, conducting a welfare check on the child following an investigation by Child Protective Services (CPS). Neighbors told authorities that some of them had not seen the boy in months, according to the Detroit Free Press . Despite protests from the 30-year-old mother, and attempts to get the officers to leave her home, the search was eventually carried out and the body of the boy, whose name has not been released to the public, was found. In a statement, Detroit Police Chief James White said that it is not yet known how long the body was kept in the freezer, but did confirm that it had begun to decompose. "Initially, the conversation [with the mother] was to just push the officers away as if there was nothing going on," White said. "But their intuition, their experience led … [Read more...] about Three-year-old missing for months found dead in mom’s basement freezer

Protests and celebrations as Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade: Live updates

June 25, 2022 by www.nbcnews.com

Protests continued in cities across the country Saturday after the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that had guaranteed the right to abortion in the United States. As states began to enact abortion bans and clinics stopped offering the procedure, large crowds gathered in cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, some jubilant, others dismayed at the decision that stripped away women’s constitutional right to abortion. Both sides predicted the fight over abortion would continue. Key highlights: President Joe Biden called it a “sad day” for the U.S. and said it would be up to voters in November to select candidates who would protect a host of rights — not just abortion but also marriage equality and the right to contraception. Centrist Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, suggested they were misled by Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, two key votes in the decision to overturn Roe. Supreme Court abortion ruling touches off second day of raucous protests nationwide

June 25, 2022 by www.nbcnews.com

WASHINGTON - There appeared to be no let-up Saturday as Americans angered by the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade hit the streets for a second day of mass protests. From Washington, D.C., where the conservatives on the court Friday swept aside a half-century of precedent to do away with the law, all the way to the West Coast, there were angry, raucous protests against a ruling that almost immediately made access to abortions all-but-impossible in half the country. Those protests were, at times, met with counter-protests by anti-abortion activists elated by the ruling and determined to stop abortions from happening everywhere in the country. Outside the Supreme Court building, a small-but-growing group of protesters chanting "Women's rights are human rights" confronted a preacher who had waded into the mix and appeared to be trying to drown them out. "Listen to me, our religious convictions inform everything we do," the Rev. Jonathan Tremaine Thomas said. … [Read more...] about Supreme Court abortion ruling touches off second day of raucous protests nationwide

Democrat Senate Candidate Allegedly Punched by Opponent at Abortion Rally

June 25, 2022 by www.thedailybeast.com

An abortion rights protest devolved into chaos in Rhode Island on Friday, after a state Senate candidate was apparently punched in the face by her Republican opponent. “I’m a reproductive rights organizer & State Senate candidate. Last night, after speaking at our Roe rally, my Republican opponent—a police officer—violently attacked me,” Democrat candidate Jennifer Rourke tweeted on Saturday morning. The alleged assailant, Jeann Lugo, is an officer in the Providence Police Department. The department, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment, also tweeted on Saturday that it is “criminally investigating the behavior of an off duty officer last evening during a protest where a female was assaulted.” The officer was placed on paid administrative leave. V ideo of the incident appeared to show Rourke being punched after a scuffle broke out when an apparent counter-protester was punched by another individual. Rourke had been pushing for the man to … [Read more...] about Democrat Senate Candidate Allegedly Punched by Opponent at Abortion Rally

Cops Confuse ‘ANTHRAX’ With ‘ANTIFA’ in Hunt for Violent Protester

June 18, 2021 by www.thedailybeast.com

A man who drew a gun and put a protester in a headlock at a “Back The Blue” rally during the peak of police-brutality protests last year openly displayed anti-fascist sympathies, according to a confidential police bulletin circulated months later. “‘ANTIFA’ is a patch on the right shoulder of the subject,” reads the bulletin, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Beast. But the patch does not say “ANTIFA” at all. It’s a logo patch for the heavy metal band Anthrax. Last June, even as racial-justice protests swept the country, one pro-police event in Everett, Washington, made national headlines. There, in what critics described as an unequal application of justice , a teenager was arrested for taunting police with a doughnut, while a pro-police demonstrator was not arrested after putting a man in a headlock and drawing a gun. But two months after the protest, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office did circulate an internal bulletin about the gun-wielding man, according … [Read more...] about Cops Confuse ‘ANTHRAX’ With ‘ANTIFA’ in Hunt for Violent Protester
