A BLAST that hit a tourist bus in Cairo has killed at least two passengers and injured many more tonight near to the Giza pyramids. Egypt's interior ministry confirmed the bus had been carrying a party of tourists from Vietnam, but is it still safe to visit the ancient structures, which draw 15 million visitors annually? CAIRO (Reuters) - Two Vietnamese tourists were killed and 12 other people were injured on Friday when their bus was hit by a blast from an explosive device in Giza, Egypt, the interior ministry said. Ten of the injured were Vietnamese tourists and two were Egyptians, a ministry statement said. The bus was hit by an explosion from an improvised device hidden near a wall on Marioutiya street at around 1815 (1615 GMT), the ministry said. Police are investigating, the statement said. CAIRO — Vietnamese movie Người Vợ Ba (The Third Wife) bagged another international award by winning the Best Artistic Contribution in International Competition at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) on November 29. The Antiquities Ministry said the mummies dating to the Late Period (664-332 BC) are covered with a layer of painted material called cartonnage in the form of a human. The ministry said the mummies were found in an area of King Amenemhat II’s pyramid in the Dahshur royal necropolis. The necropolis was the burial site for courtiers and high-ranking officials. The area is home to what is considered to be some of the earliest pyramids, including Sneferu’s Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. Egypt hopes such discoveries will spur tourism, which is partially driven by antiquities sightseeing that was hit hard by political turmoil following the 2011 uprising.
